Fowler Takes Home Inaugural VP Racing Fuels High Voltage GNCC Overall Win
Borich and Richardson Round Out Overall Podium

Dunkard, Pa. (July 7, 2019) – The ninth round of the 2019 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, took place yesterday, July 6, at the Lilly Family Farm in Dunkard, Pennsylvania. The racing action was full of exciting moments, heated battles all day long, along with a few surprises from Mother Nature.

As the green flag waved it was WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler getting the jump off the line first, earning himself the $250 Wiseco XC1 Holeshot Award as he headed into the woods first. Fowler would remain in the lead and have 13 seconds over the field as they made their way around on lap one.

However, after the pack set off on their second lap, Mother Nature would wreak havoc with gusty winds and a torrential downpour. These would cause the course to become super slick and allow Maxxis/Fly Racing/Ye Olde Cycle Barn’s Chris Borich to make his way towards Fowler.

As the leads emerged, Borich was now one second behind Fowler as the pair made their way to the finish where the white flag was waving. The rain continued to sprinkle, temperatures had cooled a bit, but the battle was just beginning for the overall win.

Word came from the track crew that Borich was on the heels of Fowler as they came through the woods, and everyone watched in anticipation from the finish line. As the pair appeared, Borich dove to the inside corner trying to make the pass. Fowler would dive back in the second to last corner, as these two were giving it everything they had to take this inaugural win. With fans lining the fence in the very last corner, Fowler would battle his way through to take the checkered flag 2.2 seconds ahead of Borich.

Yamaha/AmPro/Action Offroad/GBC’s Cole Richardson would work his way to third overall on the day. Richardson was trying to make up time and catch the two front-runners, however after the rain it was just a fight to the finish for most. Richardson sits fourth in the points standings as the series heads into its Summer Break.

After starting off the day in second LanMills XC/CST Tires/Houser/Yamaha’s Brycen Neal came through on the second lap in fourth. Neal would remain in the fourth place position until the checkered flag flew even with the changing conditions throughout the two-hour race.

JMR/Maxxis/Elka/Moose Racing’s Jarrod McClure made his way up to fifth place after starting back in the seventh place position. McClure has been having an up-and-down season thus far in the year, but with another top five finish McClure is looking to turn his season around when the series returns from break.

Coming through sixth overall was Ryland Johnson Racing/GBC Motorsports/Ye Olde Cycle Barn’s Westley Wolfe. Wolfe is currently sitting right inside the top 10 in the points standings. Spider Graphix/GBC Motorsports/Moose Racing/Custom Axis’ Martin Christofferson came through seventh overall after a day full of unexpected changes.

GBC/Fly Racing/HMF/Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher earned 8th overall on the hot and dry, then rain and muddy day. OBOR/Moose Racing/Parts Unlimited/McGill Mafia’s Adam McGill finished through 10th overall and 9th in the XC1 Pro class. Custom Axis/Goldspeed/Houser Racing’s Greg Covert finished 10th in the XC1 Pro class and 11th overall in Pennsylvania.

John Glauda Jr. earned the XC2 Pro-Am win followed by Wyatt Wilkin and Jordon Poplaski.

In the XC2 Pro-Am class Pierce Performance/Maxxis/Waynesburg Yamaha’s John Glauda Jr. was back to the center of the podium. Glauda Jr. took the early lead coming through first on the opening lap. Glauda Jr. would fall back to third as the rain began to fell, but shortly took back over the lead and came through the checkered flag first by over two minutes. Rounding out the XC2 Pro-Am class podium was Honda-backed rider, Wyatt Wilkin and Yamaha-backed rider Jordon Poplaski.

Stewart Boys Racing's Luke Shepherd took home the Top Amateur honors from the Junior A 22+ class, followed by Yamaha-backed rider and Vet A competitor Jeff Pickens in second. College A and Pennsylvania native Seth Wilson came through to round out the top amateur overall podium and earn the win in his class.

Taking his first-ever 10 a.m. overall win was Pennsylvania’s own, Layne McCormick. As the riders took to the track temperatures were high and track was dry and dusty. McCormick knew this was his kind of track with the off-camber, tight and technical sections, and he was absolutely flying during the race as he finished five minutes ahead of his fellow Schoolboy Sr. class competitors.

Can-Am/OBOR Tires/Derisi Racing’s Landon Wolfe came through to take his eighth 4x4 Pro class win of the season. However, Wolfe’s win did not come easy as Can-Am/CST Tires/Tire Spine Dwight Pollard held onto the lead when the white flag came out. Wolfe would battle back making the pass stick on Pollard, and ultimately come through to the checkered flag first in his class.

Derisi Racing/Cometic Gasket/Savage Designs’ Robbie Pecorari held the lead as they made their way around on the opening lap, but would fall back to third in the 4x4 Pro class on the second lap. Pecorari would continue to push for a podium finish, comning in three minutes behind Pollard.

Traci Pickens earned her fifth win of the season.

WXC racing was once again an intense battle with GBC Motorsports/Yamaha/Fly Racing’s Traci Pickens earning her fifth win of the season. Pickens holds onto the points lead as the series heads into its break for Summer. Action Offroad/Moose Racing/GBC Motorsports’ Katelyn Osburn made her way onto the podium even after stopping to check on fellow WXC competitor Sadiee Gorrell, who is ok after a crash on the second lap. Osburn put her head down and pushed through coming from the sixth place position to earn second in the WXC class. Stewart Boys Racing’s Megan Shepherd rounded out the WXC class top three at the Inaugural VP Racing Fuels High Voltage GNCC in Pennsylvania.

Battling their way through the 8 a.m. youth race were YXC1 Super Mini Sr. competitors, Cooper Stewart and Parker Henderson. Throughout the first three laps, Henderson would hold the lead over Stewart, however as the two got the white flag, Stewart would find himself in the first place position. Stewart and Henderson would battle the entire race, and as the checkered flag flew it was Stewart checking in 0.640 seconds ahead of Henderson. Morgan Johnson put her head down and pushed throughout the duration of the race to take third overall and in the YXC1 class. Johnson appeared on the YXC1 class podium in New York, but was excited to make it onto the overall youth podium.

Damien Hawkins was only able to complete three out of five laps of racing today, and now sits second in the points standings. Henderson leads the way, but is just one point ahead of Hawkins. Stewart is just 25 points behind both of them.

In the YXC2 Super Mini Jr. class Charlie Stewart earned his seventh win of the season, and remains in the points lead. Tyler Cox came through second in the class, with Nicholas Dearing earning third in the class. Stewart earned fourth overall with Cox and Dearing taking the fifth and sixth place spots.
