Welcome to Quick Fill.
It’s time to go GNCC Racing and this weekend we return to the toughest event of the season for the 13th annual Snowshoe GNCC. This year’s event promises to be yet another great one as a rugged course awaits competitors looking to take on the mountain. Of course, we’re also slammed busy getting this thing ready, so this week’s edition of Quick Fill will truly be quick as we’re full swing in putting the final touches on everything for the weekend.
I will give a quick low-down on the course since it’s tough to walk the entire thing. You’ll be heading out to the east side off the start, and the first mile will be some of the usual ski slopes that carry you out to your first woods section. You’ll drop into the woods and follow a medium-speed trail all the way towards Silver Creek. You’ll drop onto a road at the two-mile mark and run up it just a bit before jumping into a section of woods.
Those woods are a little tighter and fairly rocky, then you’ve got a tough little downhill that drops you back onto the road at the three-mile mark. You’ll go another short distance up that road once again. The ATV races will head up a powerline and into a rocky section of woods, while the 1PM bikes will continue out the road just a little further and drop into a different section of woods. This section is tight and rocky, and will lead you by the four-mile mark. You’ll keep following that trail out to another road at the five-mile mark. You’ll run up that road a good little ways, which we know isn’t very popular but the trail you’ll ride before it is well worth the quick road ride.
You’ll head up to the six-mile mark and into some various woods sections. You’ll actually be riding backwards on the ATV trail to the seven-mile mark where you’ll then drop into another tough woods section. It’s a gentle uphill grade with a lot of mud and rocks before crossing a road and dropping into another section of rocky woods. This will tie the bike and ATV trails together on the ski slopes at Silver Creek where you’ll run to the top of Silver Creek, passing the eight-mile mark on the way.
At the top of the ski slope, you’ll hit a brand new trail that leads you to a quick field section to the nine-mile mark. You’ve got a tough downhill section before crossing a road and heading up a fast trail past the ten-mile mark. You’ll come back across the over/under bridge and head past the eleven-mile mark to Howard’s Hole. Once you make it out of Howard’s Hole, you’ll cross some ski slopes and through some short woods sections to the 12-mile mark before heading into the finish.
Out of the finish, you’ll drop down a ski slope to begin your loop on the west side of the mountain. The first mile is mostly ski slopes with a few short woods sections, before you head up and cross the main road. This brings you to a rocky downhill woods section to the two-mile mark. You’ll pop out on a powerline for just a little bit before another long downhill section. At the bottom of this downhill, the ATVs will turn right and head towards the western six-mile mark, while the 1PM bikes will turn left and head towards the western three. There’s some rocky and rooted trails to the western three-mile mark, which continue to a tough downhill rock garden.
After the rock garden, you’ll run some medium speed trails to the five-mile mark, but these trails are littered with big rocks, so it’s not going to be easy! You’ll start climbing out of the valley up to the six-mile mark where you’ll run a fast trail to a good, rocky hillclimb up the powerline. That powerline brings you to the seven-mile mark at the pro pits before heading over to some rocky woods and past the western eight-mile mark. That leads you back out onto the ski slopes by the village and into the finish. So overall, it’s going to be a tough but fun weekend of racing. Don’t miss out!
That’s going to do it for this week’s edition of Quick Fill. We hope you enjoy your weekend on the mountain!
