The 2019 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, heads into round three – the FMF Steele Creek from Morganton, North Carolina.
This weekend, WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler is looking to make it three-in-a-row. As the series heads to North Carolina, Fowler is looking to redeem himself from last year, where he finished third overall. Fowler has had a successful start to the season, earning the back-to-back wins in Florida and Georgia, and is now aiming to claim the FMF Steele Creek overall ATV win on Saturday afternoon.
In the XC2 Pro-Am class Pierce Performance/Maxxis/Waynesburg Yamaha’s John Glauda Jr. leads the way after earning back-to-back wins in Florida and Georgia. Glauda Jr. hails from Waxhaw, North Carolina, and is eager to make it three-in-a-row in front of his home state family and friends.
Morganton’s own Rockstar Energy/Factory Husqvarna Racing’s Trevor Bollinger put in quite the ride at the previous round, even running in the number one spot for a couple of laps. This Sunday, Bollinger is hungry for his first-career overall win and with this weekend’s race taking place in his hometown, it might just give him the extra push he needs to earn the victory.
Six-time GNCC National Champion, Kailub Russell currently calls Boonville, North Carolina home. Russell earned the win last weekend, and is looking to continue his success as the series heads North. 2010 GNCC National Champion, Josh Strang, who hails from Australia, calls Denver, North Carolina home with his wife and newborn baby boy Maverick. Strang currently sits sixth in the points standings, and is looking to race to the front of the pack next Sunday, March 31.
Leading the way in the XC2 250 Pro class is Trail Jesters KTM’s Ben Kelley. After earning the XC2 National Championship last year, Kelley is off to a great start at defending his number one plate this year. Kelley earned the class win at the opening round and then again at round two. This weekend Kelley is looking to keep his momentum rolling and earn his third consecutive win of the season.
