Cole Richardson Looks to Make it Two-In-A-Row at Powerline Park
Fowler Aims For Overall Win at Home State Race

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (October 10, 2018) – The AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series, an AMA National Championship heads to Powerline Park in St. Clairsville, Ohio for the penultimate round this weekend October 13 and 14. As the series winds down, this event promises to host a great weekend of racing between the world’s best off-road ATV and UTV racers on Saturday, October 13.

AmPro Yamaha/Gear Alloy/GBC’s Cole Richardson earned his first-ever overall win just two weeks ago at what was considered his hometown race in Pennsylvania. Richardson has been steadily improving all season long, after returning from an injury sustained last year. This Saturday Richardson will be looking to battle at the front of the pack once again and hopefully earn his second overall win of the season.

Meanwhile, WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler is looking forward to his home state race at Powerline Park, where he has earned the overall win four times. Fowler has earned five out of 10 wins thus far in the season, but he is aiming for his sixth win this Saturday in front of his family and friends. As we head into the penultimate round, Fowler remains in control of the National Championship Standings with a 44-point lead over second.

Another rider to keep an eye on this weekend is McGill Mafia/CST Tires/Moose Racing’s Adam McGill. This season McGill has been plagued with bad luck and mechanical issues, but he has also managed to earn an overall win at round four, followed by a third place finish just two weeks ago at the Mason-Dixon GNCC. McGill earned the win two years ago at Powerline Park and is no stranger to running up front.

Maxxis/Fly Racing/Ye Olde Cycle Barn’s Chris Borich finished in the fourth place position at the previous round, but he will be one to watch out for this weekend as he’s earned multiple podium positions as well as a win at round nine. Another Ohio native coming into this weekend hoping to earn his second overall win is Bneal Motorsports/CST Tires/Houser Racing’s Brycen Neal. As we head into the last two rounds Neal currently sits third in points, however he is only three points behind second place.

Heading into Powerline Park, JMR/ATVriders.com/Maxxis’ Jarrod McClure currently sits second in the National Championship standings with 44 points separating him and Fowler. McClure has the ability to produce an overall win, as he has done already this season at the X-Factor GNCC in Indiana. McClure is looking to earn his second overall win of the season and close the points gap between him and Fowler as we head into the season finale.

Two racers who had one of their best performances at the previous round would have to be GBC Motorsports/RJR/Solo Pilots Westley Wolfe and BNR Motorsports/GBC/Precision’s Josh Merritt. After a rough battle and muddy racing conditions Wolfe and Merritt respectively finished sixth and seventh overall at the Mason-Dixon GNCC. Wolfe will look to improve his standings, and fight for a top five finish. Meanwhile, Merritt is aiming for a breakthrough finish in his home state of Ohio.

In the XC2 Pro-Am class, Maxxis/Ithaca Recreation Sports/Fly Racing’s Hunter Hart continues to lead the way. Hart has earned eight class wins, and currently has a 7 race win streak. One rider looking to stop Hart’s success is Demaree Motorsports/LSR/Fly Racing’s Austin Abney. Thus far in the season Abney has earned one win, however he has finished on the podium at the last five-consecutive races. Another XC2 Pro-Am rider who has had a taste of success this year is Pierce Performance/Maxxis/Waynesburg Yamaha’s John Glauda Jr. after earning the win in Georgia.

UTV Racing returns this Saturday, October 13 at 4:00 p.m. with Miller Brothers Can-Am/Maxxis’ Hunter Miller leading the way. Jamie McCoy sits second after earning the first win of the season in South Carolina, and after earning a pair of third place finishes at the past two UTV rounds he is ready to stand in the center of the podium once again. However, Can-Am/Chaney Racing’s and Ohio native, Kyle Chaney earned the win at the Camp Coker Bullet and The John Penton. Chaney sits third in the championship standings due to two mechanical issues at the first two events of the season. AmPro Yamaha and defending UTV National Champion, Cody Miller has not had the season he hoped for. After bad luck struck and a second place finish being his best thus far in the season, he’s looking to try and end the season on a high-note by earning the overall win. Collin Truett leads the way in the Single Seat UTV division, as well as the UXC2 Pro class.

Other local racers expected to compete this Saturday on ATVs will be: Andrea Rodgers (Girls 8-15), Andrew Banovsky (College A 16-21), Colton Buck (Schoolboy Sr. 14-17), Ken Robey (4x4 A), Jeremy Gushard (Vet A 30+), Walter Schumacher (Sport 15+), Joey Ocel (Schoolboy Sr 14-17), Doug Robey (4x4 Pro), Evan Timko (Junior B 22+) and Cody Stewart (Junior B 22+).

UTV Racing returns Saturday at 4 p.m., and Ohio native Kyle Chaney is looking to earn his third-straight UXC1 Pro Turbo win.

This weekend is co-sanctioned with WEXCR,  a series that produces local racing events in Southern Ohio and West Virginia, and will ultimately bring out a full slate of local racers. Local riders are invited and encouraged to compete in the event, as GNCC Racing offers classes for riders of all skill and experience levels. The amateur race entry fee is $50 if racers pre-enter or sign up at the track. To learn more about GNCC Racing, refer to the GNCC 101 webpage.
