Fowler, Borich and McClure Set to Battle at Dunlop Tomahawk GNCC
Hunter Hart Looks to Earn XC2 Pro-Am Win in Home State
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 6, 2018) – This weekend, June 9 and 10, The 2018 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series, an AMA National Championship, heads to Odessa, New York for the 4th Annual Dunlop Tomahawk GNCC. Heading into round eight fresh off his fourth overall win of the season is WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler. Maxxis/Fly Racing/Ye Olde Cycle Barn’s Chris Borich has been putting the pressure on at the front of the pack, but he is still looking to earn his first win of the season.
Fowler put in a dominating ride at The John Penton GNCC, leading every lap of the two-hour race. However, the battles behind Fowler were the ones keeping everyone on their toes until the checkered flag flew. Borich has finished in the runner up position at the past two rounds, but he is now hoping to pressure Fowler this Saturday and earn his first overall win of the season.
Battling with Borich at the previous round was JMR/ATVriders.com/Maxxis’ Jarrod McClure. Currently McClure sits tied in the points championship for second with Bneal Motorsports/CST Tires/Houser Racing’s Brycen Neal. Both riders were fiercely fighting for a podium finish at round seven, but it would be McClure who would earn the last spot on the box. However, McClure and Neal are two other riders that have both earned one win thus far in the season, and both will continue to battle for their second win this weekend.
AmPro Yamaha/Gear Alloy/GBC’s Cole Richardson rounded out the top five in Ohio, but he is hoping to put in another ride like he did at round four and land on the podium. Richardson has had an up-and-down year and is looking to once again battle at the front of the pack before we close in on summer break.
Coming off his fifth top 10 finish of the year is GBC Motorsports/RJR/Solo Pilot’s Westley Wolfe. After a strong start to the season, Wolfe would suffer a minor setback while racing at the ATV Supercross event. Wolfe rode through the pain at the next two events and has since returned to his top 10 and five place finishing ways at the previous three rounds.
BNR Motorsports/GBC/Precision’s Josh Merritt is hoping to battle for a top five finish this weekend. Merritt has been steadily improving through the season, and he has finished seventh at the past two events. New York native, Spider Graphix/GBC Motorsports/Moose Racing’s Marty Christofferson comes into his home state race after having one of his best races in 2018. Christofferson finished eighth at The John Penton, and he is looking to improve his points standing in front of his family and friends.
GBC/Fly Racing/HMF/Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher and another New York native, M.R. Unlimited/GBC Tires/RJR’s Devon Feehan rounded out the top 10 in the XC1 Pro class at round seven. Gallagher and Feehan have not had the start to the season they were hoping for. Both also battled an illness at round six, with Feehan being unable to even start the race. However, as we head into the penultimate round before summer break they are hoping to turn their luck around.
McGill Mafia/CST Tires/Moose Racing’s Adam McGill is hoping to put in a good ride at Tomahawk this Saturday like he did in 2017. McGill finished second last year and is looking to repeat his success, but also fight for his second overall win of the season. McGill currently sits sixth in the championship standings, just one point behind Richardson.
In the XC2 Pro-Am class, Maxxis/Ithaca Recreation Sports/Fly Racing’s Hunter Hart is looking forward to racing at what is considered his hometown race. Hart currently leads the XC2 Pro-Am points championship, and he is eager to earn his sixth win of the season. However, Austin Abney and John Glauda Jr. are both ready to earn their second wins of the season and put a stop to Hart’s dominance.
Local racers expected to compete next Saturday on ATVs will be: Marty Christofferson (XC1 Pro), Greg Covert (XC1 Pro), Steven Covert (XC2 Pro-Am), Zachary Dean (XC2 Pro-Am), Morgan Downing (Women), Devon Feehan (XC1 Pro), Greg Fruchtel (Masters 50+), Hunter Hart (XC2 Pro-Am), Coedy Lamoreaux (College A 16-21), David Nappo (Vet B 30+), Mickey Nickels (College A 16-21), Katelyn Osburn (WXC), Ivo Paljevic (35+ C), Kara Short (WXC), Tim Stuber (Masters 50+) and Brooke Williams (70 CVT & Micro XC1).
Four-wheeled ATVs will compete throughout the day on Saturday, June 9. Youth ATV racing begins at 8 a.m., followed by amateurs, 4x4 Pro and Women at 10 a.m., and the top amateurs and pros race at 1 p.m. Following Saturday’s afternoon race will be 50cc Micro racing taking place at 4:30 p.m.
