Team UXC Racing 2018 GNCC Round 5 UTV and ATV Race Report
Team UXC Racing prepped for the GNCC Round 5 CST Camp Coker Bullet by spending a majority of the week leading up to the race in Georgia testing shocks with FOX. After making some big improvements and doing a quick photo shoot with Harlen Foley, the team headed to Society Hill, SC for the race.
The team had some ups and downs but ended the day with two wins, a second and three fourths.
UTV Races
Team UXC Racing came into the third UTV race of the year off a win and overall by Kevin Trantham in the UXC1 Pro Turbo class.
Both Trantham and Michael Swift started in the front row. Swift settled into third and Trantham was right behind him in fourth.
Although the track was fast without many wooded sections, the dusty conditions made it tough to navigate and allowed for the class to spread out. Unfortunately, both Swift and Trantham had mechanical issues, Swift with the intercooler and Trantham a cooling issue that hindered performance. Both racers pressed forward and kept their cars going to finish fourth and sixth.
Trantham sits in third and Swift fourth in the point standings and both feel consistency will be the key to the championship.
Team UXC’s Matt Ashton lined up his RZR XP 1000 for the XC2 Pro class. An unfortunate incident where a rock lodged between the wheel and caliper causing the caliper to break off would leave the car with no brakes for the remainder of the race. Ashton with co-pilot Katelyn Osburn, ran the car brakeless for four-and-a-half laps and finish a respectable seventh out of 13 starters.
Single-Seat Class
Swift had better fortunes in the Single Seat class where he took the win in his RZR RS1.He went into the woods in third staying patient until the motocross track where he let his RZR RS1 loose and made two passes back-to-back to take the lead. Swift held the lead all the way to the checkers and credits the win to all the work during the week leading up to the race.
Becky Widdicombe and her ACE 900 XC’s race was cut short due to a mechanical issue. She is optimistic for the next race and knows a podium finish is in her future.
ATV Races
The 4x4 Pro class saw 14 racers line up with Swift and his Scrambler XP 1000 going into the woods in the back of the pack. Swift, showing his sportsmanship, stopped on the first lap to help anther rider so he played catch the rest of the race going from last up to sixth. Swift also needed some time to get use to his new FOX shocks in a race scenario and was feeling good about them after the initial lap. He’s confident the new set up will have him back on the podium in no time.
Trantham made it five straight in the 4x4 Senior class on his Scrambler XP 1000. He was able to move up to second off the start heading into the woods.
After an intense battle with the leader, Trantham would take the lead shortly into the first lap and never look back. He credits the win to his Scrambler XP 1000 working flawlessly. Trantham’s teammates Graham Widdicombe and Nic Snyckers also ran the class on Scrambler XP 1000s. Widdicombe finished fourth and Snyckers broke an axle on the first lap and was unable to finish.
Team UXC would also have representation in the 4x4 A class with Josh Day and his Scrambler XP 1000. He took fourth out of the nine starters.
Youth ATV
In 125 Sr., Team UXC’s Tayton Swift took second place, just 19 seconds off the leader. Swift sits in third in points for the season.
