Hunter Hart Earns Third Win in XC2 Pro-Am

SOCIETY HILL, S.C. (April 22, 2018) – Arriving just in time for round five of the AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series, an AMA National Championship, were near perfect racing conditions at Moree’s Sportsman’s Preserve, who hosted America’s premier off-road ATV racers Saturday, April 21. All eyes were on the front row when the 1 p.m. race took off, to see who would take the overall win.

Returning to the center of the podium at round five was Walker Fowler, earning his third win of the season.

When the checkered flag flew it was WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler returning to the center of the podium after a dominating performance. After two-consecutive rounds of missing the coveted overall position, Fowler would grab the Wiseco $250 XC1 ATV holeshot award and lead the field of XC1 pros into the woods. With bad luck striking a number of riders behind him, Fowler would not be contested as he lead each lap of the race, ultimately earning his third win of the season.

JMR/ATVriders.com-backed rider, Jarrod McClure, would cross the line in second as he put in an exceptional ride after dealing with dry and sandy conditions that overtook many areas of the racecourse. With riders ahead of him succumbing to mechanical issues and falling off the pace, McClure’s steady and consistent speed gave him a comfortable gap to glide in and take his third podium finish of the season.

Bneal Motorsports/CST Tires/Houser Racing’s Brycen Neal came through the finish line on lap one in the fifth place position, but you could tell he wanted to battle at the very front of the pack. Neal kept charging and would find himself back on the podium taking the final podium position with a well-earned third overall.

Jarrod McClure finished out the day in second overall, moving up to third in the championship point standings.

With misfortune striking some of the front-runners, the door was open for other riders in the XC1 Pro class to advance; and that is exactly what RJR/Tire Spine/GBC Motorsports’ Devon Feehan accomplished. Feehan, who earned the XC2 Pro-Am Championship in 2017, secured his best XC1 Pro finish to date taking fourth overall.

Just behind Feehan was GBC Motorsports/RJR/Solo Pilot’s Westley Wolfe, finishing fifth after a solid effort during a demanding race. Wolfe has been overcoming injuries and looks to be ready to contend for top five finishes, and possibly his first podium. BNR Motorsports/GBC/Moose Racing’s Josh Merritt also earned his best finish of the season with a sixth in XC1 and seventh overall.

Penske Racing Shocks/Houser Racing/Spider Graphix’s Greg Covert took home the seventh place position in XC1 followed by Spider Graphix/Shockworx Motorsports Tucker Wyatt in eighth. Spider Graphix/GBC Motorsports/Moose Racing’s Marty Christofferson came through the finish ninth in XC1 with Yamaha-supported rider, Cody Collier rounding out the top 10.

The XC2 Pro-Am class would once again be one to watch as Maxxis/Ithaca Recreation Sports/Fly Racing’s Hunter Hart secured his third win of the season, and taking over the class points leads. When the green flag flew it was Nick Royalty claiming the All Balls Racing XC2 $100 holeshot award. However, it wouldn’t take long for Hart to make the pass and fend off a very hard-charging XC2 Pro-Am class pack. John Glauda Jr. would ultimately finish the race second in his class, and Coastal Racing’s Drew Landers made his return to the podium after his third place efforts.

The 10 a.m. ATV race was packed with action as the 4x4 Pro riders looked to fill the overall podium, until Jay Shadron, returning to race the Sportsman A/B class, was able to close the time gap and make a podium appearance. When the podium was reset for the 4x4 Pro class, Kevin Cunningham would claim win number five as he best Landon Wolfe in what was one of the most intense battles of the day. Dwight Pollard would also find success here at round five with his third place finish in 4x4 Pro.

In the WXC class, it looked as if Traci Pickens would be able to pull away to another win, until a late race pass by Katelyn Osburn gave her the lead, which she held until the end. Pickens would take second and add to her points for the class championship. Angel Knox rounded out the WXC podium with her third place finish.

Kyle Chaney earned his first UTV overall win of the season.

UTV racing returned for their third round of the season, and the racing was as intense as ever. When the dust cleared, it would be Can-Am/Chaney Racing’s Kyle Chaney taking the overall win after a non-typical start to his season. Taking second was Miller Brothers/Can-Am/Maxxis’ Hunter Miller who couldn't quite run down the hard charging Chaney and would settle for second. H. Miller currently holds the UXC1 Pro Turbo points lead. Jamie McCoy would finish out the UTV podium with a solid third place effort today.

The 8 a.m. youth race was another stellar exhibition of speed and power as Layne McCormick handled the Camp Coker track with ease and ran to another overall win. Joining Layne on the podium would be Keaton Henderson in second with Bryce Husband taking the third position.

The 1 p.m. ATV Pro race was broadcast LIVE in its entirety on RacerTV.com and can be viewed as archived video online by visiting the GNCC LIVE page online. A highlight show featuring the event will be aired on the NBC Sports Network on Sunday, June 3 at 3:00 p.m.

The 2018 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series resumes in Peru, Indiana on May 12 and 13 with the 2nd Annual X-Factor Whitetails GNCC.
