Coastal Racing ATV and UTV Team Report: Powerline Park GNCC

Tuesday, October 10, 2017 | 11:50 AM

Coastal Racing/Answer/Maxxis/Waynesburg Yamaha ATV Team's Brycen Neal kept the positive momentum rolling through Round 12 of the Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC) on Saturday as he earned 3rd overall at the Powerline Park GNCC. His teammate, Drew Landers, earned his sixth victory of the season in the College A (16-21) class to further extend his points lead in the class.

Coming off an impressive 2nd place finish at the previous round, Neal came into the penultimate round ready to bring home a race win in his home state of Ohio. However, Neal didn't get the start he was looking for as he rounded the opening lap in 4th place - leaving him amidst the dusty cloud from the top three riders. Neal worked hard to maintain battle with the front-runners throughout the day as he assumed the 3rd place position by lap two and held it for a majority of the two-hour race.

Neal finished strong on the final lap as he began to close the gap on the 2nd place rider just before the checkered flag flew - capturing his seventh podium finish of the season with a solid 3rd place overall. With one round remaining in the season, Neal sits 2nd overall in the National Championship Standings.

College A (16-21)

Team rider Drew Landers got off to a great start in the College A class as he powered his Coastal Racing Yamaha into the lead position right off the start. Landers led the pack into the woods and maintained the lead position through the opening lap. However, Landers encountered a bottleneck on lap two that ultimately caused him substantial time, falling over one minute behind to 2nd place.

Landers dug deep and pushed himself to gain back the lost time as he caught up to the leader of John Glauda Jr. and engaged in battle on the final lap. Landers was able to make the pass about three miles into the last lap, where he maintained a solid position through the checkered flag to capture his sixth victory of the season in College A. Landers also claimed the Top Amateur honors with 16th overall for the day.

"What a day of racing it was!" Landers said. "I got off to a great start and led the first lap until getting hung up in a bottleneck on lap two. I dropped back to 2nd and lost quite a bit of time on the leader. From then on, I pushed through the issues I was having with my injured wrist and caught the leader halfway through the third lap. John Glauda Jr. and I were nose-to-tail in battle and I made the pass on him three miles into the last lap and pushed as hard as I could to the finish. My Coastal Racing Yamaha handled like a dream all day and propelled me to the front. Thanks to my team and all my other supporters for all they do!"

Team rider Eli Kiger got off to a good start in the College A (16-21) class where he began the opening lap in the 3rd place position. Kiger eventually dropped back to just outside the top five before ultimately finishing 11th for the day.

"It was a tough day," Kiger said. "I had a good start but it was just one of those days where I couldn't get momentum to make the passes I needed to. I'm looking forward to coming back strong for the final round at Ironman."

XC1 Pro UTV

Round 4 of the UTV Championship made its return to the racing weekend and team driver Sean Bogdan, along with his co-pilot Jade Kiger, lined up on the front row alongside the fastest drivers in the series. Bogdan powered his machine off the start to battle wheel-to-wheel with the top four drivers heading into the woods section. While the Coastal Racing Team was positioned favorably early on, that's when bad luck set in as they lost their brakes on the opening lap.

From there, Bogdan rode smart and conservative in order to complete as many laps as possible. Ultimately, Bogdan was able to make four of the five laps to finish 15th place in the XC1 Pro UTV class.

"Well the bad luck continues," Bogdan said. "Unfortunately we can't catch a break with the little things but I guess that's how racing goes sometimes. We're looking forward to Ironman and hoping to get some redemption! I can't say thank you enough to the entire Coastal Racing Team and our sponsors for all that they do."
