Round 8 of the GNCC took place this weekend in Snowshoe, West Virginia where the weather was moderate and in the low 70’s. The course conditions were wet with a lot of standing water from heavy rain in the days leading up to the race. Living up to the nickname of “America’s Toughest Race” the courses consisted of technical, rocky terrain and exposed roots with the top riders averaging about 28 minutes for the 12.5 mile East loop and 24 minutes for the 9 mile West loop.
As tribute to the famous Blackwater 100, Round 8 featured a live engine start of 5 riders at a time. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thad Duvall rounded the first turn and headed into the trees in 6th place. He steadily moved through the pack and by the end of the first lap he had moved into 3rd position until the fourth lap where he took and maintained the lead for a lap. He battled in the top three until the final lap where a mistake cost him the win finishing in 3rd place overall, 2nd in the XC1 Pro Class.
Duvall excited for a hometown race had this to say after his finish, "It feels good to podium again" reported Duvall. "It was the toughest track we’ve faced all year but the FX 350 worked awesome and we were able to make up more points in the championship battle!
Josh Strang struggled as the day went on and never got comfortable with the technical slippery rock sections and finished 13th in the XC1 Pro Class.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Thad Duvall and Josh Strang will make their way next to Cross Fork, PA for Round 5 Rattlesnake National Enduro.
