GNCC ATV Racers Aim to Keep Walker Fowler off the Podium
Gallagher, McGill, Neal and More are Set for Battle

MORGANTOWN, W.Va (June 8, 2017) – Three weeks after one of the muddiest races in history, the 2017 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series presented by Maxxis, an AMA National Championship resumes this weekend, June 10 and 11, with the third annual Dunlop Tomahawk GNCC. With an unexpected hiatus in racing, racers will be put to the test in Odessa, New York this weekend as they look to get back on schedule.

After searching for an overall win the past 23 years, GBC/Fly Racing/HMF/Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher rose to the occasion at took home his first win at the X-Factor GNCC three weeks ago. As if the victory wasn’t impressive enough in itself, Gallagher also halted the success of defending champion and WFR/Yamaha/Maxxis/Fly Racing-backed Walker Fowler. Gallagher will be looking to repeat his victory this weekend, and the rest of the field will also be charging for the win now knowing that Fowler can be topped.

CST/Induction Solutions/LSR/HiPer/Spider Graphix’s Adam McGill has yet to finish outside the top-five this year. This time last year, McGill had a three-race winning streak behind him, but Fowler ended that at the Tomahawk GNCC. Fowler has been the only ATV racer to win at this venue, but McGill won’t let that stand in his way as he looks for a change in his results. Coastal Racing’s Brycen Neal and six-time champion Chris Borich find themselves in a similar situation to McGill.

JMR/ATVriders.com’s Jarrod McClure and GBC/Canyon Motorsports/Fly Racing’s Landon Wolfe head into this weekend neck-to-neck in the points championship where only one point separates them. Wolfe moves into the halfway point of the series with an extra boost of confidence where he just had his best finish of the season, while McClure will be looking for redemption after a disappointing 17th overall finish at the last race.

Chris Borich is still searching for another win and will look to do that in New York.

The battle for the XC2 Pro-Am win is set to be a thrilling one, with the top championship contenders both residing in New York. Only three points separate M.R. Unlimited/Hygear Suspension/GBC Tires/Tire Spine’s Devon Feehan and Ithaca Recreation/Maxxis/Quad Tech/Storm Peak Crossfit’s Hunter Hart as the series moves into round seven. Both riders are equally equipped to take the win this Saturday.

Saturday’s race schedule is as follows: Youth ATV racing begins at 8 a.m., followed by amateurs, 4x4 Pro and Women at 10 a.m., and the pros and top amateurs race at 1 p.m. Following Saturday’s afternoon race will be Side-by-Side racing taking place at 4:00 p.m.

Adam McGill knows the speed it takes to stand on the top spot of the box, and will have his eyes set on it this weekend.

Adult (12+) gate admission is $20 for the full weekend and $10 for kids (6-11), with kids five and under free. Gate admission includes pro pit access and pro autographs at no additional charge.

The event is co-sanctioned with WNYOA, a series that produced local racing events in New York, and will ultimately bring out a full slate of local racers. All local riders are invited and encouraged to compete in the event, as GNCC Racing offers classes for riders of all skill and experience levels. The amateur race entry fee is $50 and riders sign up at the track. To learn more about GNCC Racing, refer to the GNCC 101 webpage.

The local racers expected to compete Saturday on ATVs will be: Aspen Makela (Girls 8-15), Mikey Nickels (Schoolboy Sr. 14-17), Katelyn Osburn (WXC), Melanie Sill (WXC), Morgan Downing (Women Amateur), Cameron Turner (24+C), Abbi Troy (WXC), brothers Greg (XC2 Pro-Am) and Steven Covert (Junior A 22+), Hunter Hart (XC2 Pro-Am), Boedy Lamoreaux (College A 16-21), Marty Christofferson (XC1 Pro), Zach Dean (Junior A 22+), Devon Feehan (XC2 Pro-Am), Scott Pierson (College A 16-21), Mike Percy (Junior B 22+) and Kyle Percy (Junior A 22+).

Hunter Hart sits just three points out of the lead for the XC2 Pro-Am championship, but has the opportunity to change that at his home track.
