The Limestone 100 was round 6 of the 2016 Grand National Cross Country Series season. It was located at the Lawrence County Recreation Park in Springville, Indiana which is owned and operated by ABATE. This was the fourth year GNCC has held an event at LCRP and the racing action didn’t disappoint.
Point chases are in high contention as the season is approaching the summer break. The ATV’s took to the track on Saturday with the youth classes starting at 8:00 am. Tim Sroka from Pennsylvania claimed the overall and Indiana racer Daulton Keyes took second overall on his Yamaha. The ATV AM classes kicked off at 10:00 am as over 250 racers lined up to compete. Jordan Phillips from North Carolina took the overall win beating Robert Smith by a mere four seconds.
The time came for the afternoon race and the pros started lining up to showcase the best abilities the sport has to offer. As the race got underway, the top riders began separating themselves from the group. Adam Mcgill, Chris Borich, Walker Fowler, and Brycen Neal stayed nose to tail for most of the race waiting on their chance to make a pass. As the final few corners came into view, Chris Borich passed Adam Mcgill to take over 1st place, but couldn’t stick the corner and ended up rolling his quad. Mcgill regained his position and took the overall win with Fowler in 2nd and Neal in 3rd. Chris Borich finished 4th.
Sunday morning arrived and it was bike day. The youth classes started the day’s events and Randall Ervin of Maryland edged out Hunter Reimer by twelve seconds to take the overall win. The bike AM race offered 340 riders a chance to claim the top spot in their respective classes. After a 2 hour battle, Tanner McCoy from Mississippi grabbed the overall win finishing ahead of Levi Kilbarger who also races Monster Energy Supercross.
The last race of the Limestone 100 was the bike PM classes and racers readied themselves for a 3 hour battle. Kailub Russell was looking to extend his points lead over Josh Strang and fans were ready to see the action unfold. The action began as soon as the race started as Indiana’s own Chris Bach took the lead for lap 1. As lap 2 got underway, Kailub Russell, Josh Strang and Thad Duvall moved up to the top three spots and retained those spots for most of the day. As laps progressed, Russell, Strang and Duvall took their turns at leading. On the last lap Kailub Russell took the lead and kept it winning his 4th race in a row. Josh Strang finished 2nd and Thad Duavall 3rd. Chris Bach finished 5th and is comfortably 3rd in the points standings.
GNCC will return to Indiana in October for the season finale, Ironman in Crawfordsville. The next GNCC race will be round 7, The Wiseco John Penton in Ohio on May 28-29.
