Welcome to Quick Fill.

ARE YOU READY? ARE YOU READY? If your answer is no, don’t feel bad. I’m pretty sure you’re not alone. We’re one week away from the official kick off to Daytona Bike Week, GNCC Racing, and all the festivities in between.

Please keep in mind that the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Fast Track Registration is still open but it will close next Tuesday, March 3. And that will be for rounds one and two, so if you have plans to pre-register (and why would you not want a $20 gift certificate to Rocky Mountain ATV/MC) for the first two rounds, don’t forget to make it happen before Tuesday at Noon EST.

And here’s the news that everyone has been anticipating this off-season, which couldn’t have come at a later date. BORICH GOES BLUE! We’ve seen tons of pictures on social media this winter but we also know CB1 and how particular he is about his race machines so it really is a shocker to see him actually make the switch to something other than yellow. Yamaha is making big waves with their ATV lineups, with the number two Fowler, number 5 Pro Am Champion Richardson and even two-time ATVMX Champion Chad Wienen. All we can hope is that Borich and Fowler pick up where they left off with that intense championship battle from 2014 because it truly was amazing! Take a look at Yamaha’s entire 2015 lineup, including WXC rider Kylie Ahart who will be sporting the blue thanks to the Yamaha All-American ATV program.

Perhaps the biggest and most anticipated news has finally surfaced! Chris Borich will be riding aboard a Yamaha for the 2015 GNCC Season.

On The Road Again… Almost (Jared Bolton)

It’s pretty close to the time for everyone to pull out Willie Nelson’s famous song and head out on the road again. In fact, Barry Hawk, Jeff Russell and Terry Beck have already headed out for their trip south. First to Aonia Pass to get things ready to go in Georgia, then off to Florida to get everything ready to race in Palatka.

It’s pretty exciting to realize that we’re this close to getting back to racing and hopefully everyone has their machines ready to race, or at least close. I’m heading out early next week and will be in the woods helping bring the track together, so I’ll have some cool social media updates, and of course an update in Quick Fill next week.

We’re definitely in for a treat in Florida as there’s a lot of hardwoods to work with at the Wild Boar, which will make for a great race. The sand also shouldn’t get as rough and brutal as races do further south in Florida, but there’s still enough sand that you’ll be able to throw your machine into the corners, which is always big fun.

All-in-all, the excitement is rising and it’s going to be a great time down south, so hopefully everyone is ready to go racing because it’s literally just around the corner.

Everyone is anxious to get this season started, and we are only nine days away from round one!

Anxious Time (Rodney Tomblin)

This has to be one the most anxious times of the season. It is only days before I crest the sunshine state and get ready for the opening round of what could be another historic season ahead. Folks are doing last minute tuning and preps, and it’s basically now or never. I have read on social media of the mass pilgrimage south that started right after Christmas. Some things have had light shed on them this season already while still there may be a surprise or two we have been waiting on come to fruition.

When the rigs roll into Palatka for the Moose Racing Wild Boar GNCC a new chapter begins. Though we revisit some familiar territory this will be a brand new race. This brings the anxiety level up another click because no one really knows what to expect. It is Florida so one thing to expect will be blisters.

During these final stages of prep, keep that in mind now. Though a number of folks may be acclimated to the conditions, many of us have spent the winter only dreaming of riding and adding sand to the first ride of the season could be an issue if you are not prepared. How? Under Gloves at Moto Tees and the GNCC Store would be two. A good and proper wrap may help but make sure you know what you are doing. You could do more harm than good if you get it too tight or too loose. I am sure if you ask around you will find many remedies to help alleviate blistering. Pick one that seems will work for you and see how it goes. And remember if you are racing at any other events in the area or heading to Georgia for round 2, you will want to save your hands as much as you can.

Anxieties will arise quickly this week. When you start to feel overwhelmed stop for a moment and take a deep breath. You are not alone. Nearly the entire GNCC Racin Nation is feeling the same pains and it will all be over soon and you will be into the groove and flow and you will laugh at these times.

Racing and Racing and Racing! (Jared Bolton)

So what better way to get in a bunch of last minute seat time than to go out and actually do some racing? That’s what’s been going on down south already, between the opening round of the Full Gas Sprint Enduro series and a SETRA hare scramble last weekend, there’s been plenty of chances to race. There’s also more chances coming up this weekend too.

The first Full Gas Sprint Enduro of the year was a pretty excellent race itself. For those who may have missed the info on the inaugural event last year, it basically takes the modern-day ISDE format and compresses it even more into twp tests: one cross test (grass/motocross track) and one woods test. The riders take turns running multiple times on each test throughout the day, multiply that by two days and whoever has the best times at the end of the two days wins.

To top it off, the racing itself was pretty intense. While it’s not direct head-to-head racing, it’s still pretty exciting because often time the leaders are separated by seconds, or even less than a second. This makes literally every inch of your ride in each test count, so you have to be on top of your game at all times.

Kailub Russell and Daniel Milner kept each other on top of their game both days. There were times on day one that either rider would lead the other by less than a full second. However, on the second day, Kailub turned it up a notch and was able to put some time on Milner as the day wore on. In the end, Russell would end up coming away with the win over Daniel Milner and Josh Strang.

There were a slew of other familiar faces racing also as Jordan Ashburn came away with fourth and Layne Michael rounded out the top five overall. Ryan Sipes only raced the first day and came away with fourth on the day, and a lot of other GNCC regulars such as Grant Baylor, Andrew Delong, Takeshi Koikeda and more were all in attendance as well.

Down to the Minimum (Rodney Tomblin)

I checked in with the number two of Walker Fowler, who has been extremely busy this entire off-season it seems. Walker Fowler and crew have been training hard since Christmas and it seems the intensity level is at a fever pitch right now. Walker is down to only one bike at the moment and is only hoping it will last a little longer.

Walker told me, “I am still riding and hanging with the same crew. Cole (Richardson), Landon (Wolfe) and Josh (Merrit). Things have gone great so far and right now I am just trying to keep a practice bike running for one last week.” It appears Walker started out with three when the training season began and is now down to his “FTR race bike”.

Fowler said that he did some testing on suspension last week, and that could be a huge benefit in this season. He said, “We spent two full days testing on Tuesday and Wednesday with the guys from Fox Shox. I have never had them come to me and do that so it was a cool experience.” Judging by his enthusiasm, I would say that Walker might prove to be as big of a foe as ever in the hunt for the title.

As far as equipment and bikes for Walker I don’t believe he will have much issue. Even though he has basically worn three quads completely out he has more on the way. He said, “My dad and Mark (Knotman) are driving the Yamaha rig down today. They may possibly stop in Gainesville for one last FTR race but all in all I am ready for this season to get underway!”

Walker is not the only one ready as we have mentioned in weeks past. All aspects of the GNCC Nation are heating up and what this year holds no one knows for sure. It could be a one man band or it could be a battle royal. My money goes on the latter and I for one am extremely anxious to see things get underway. It has been a long cold winter and this season already seems way over due to start. So next week while you are reading Quick Fill, you will know a nervousness that will most certainly make you feel alive. Enjoy and safe journey to all.

More Racing and Racing... (Jared Bolton)

While a lot of the weekend’s focus was on the star-studded Full Gas Sprint Enduro, the SETRA series was also in action at a former GNCC venue, Paradise Park, just outside of Macon, Georgia. These days, Paradise Park is owned by Scott Plessinger and has become a year-round training venue for top motocross stars, as well as off-road racers, and of course it sees some off-road racing as well. Jason Thomas ended up coming away with the win, which marks a successful off-season of racing for UKJT as he’s claimed several wins across the southeast this winter.

There’s still racing to be done down south this upcoming weekend as well with the second round of the 2015 National Enduro series happening in Salley, South Carolina with the Sandlapper National Enduro. This is another race that always draws a pretty good crowd getting in that last minute seat-time before Florida. The past few years I’ve raced Sandlapper on my way to Florida, but unfortunately I don’t have a bike to ride this year, so I’ll be staying home this time.

Regardless, it’s still going to be an event to keep an eye on as Steward Baylor, who won the first National Enduro, will be looking to bid for his second National Enduro title, while this race also plays a deciding factor in if Kailub Russell will continue to contest the National Enduro series in 2015.

Just up the road, there will be racing happening also as the first round of the 2015 Mid-East Hare Scramble Series will be happening at the HRD Complex. This always draws a big crowd of riders who don’t attend the enduro and are looking for some seat time, and also since Mid-East has quad racing as part of their series, it usually draws a good number of quad riders as well.

So get out this weekend and do some racing!
