Just one week after conquering the season opener in Florida, Chris Borich will attempt to break GNCC’s all-time wins record this Saturday at Round 2 of the 2014 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series presented by Maxxis and sanctioned by AMA. The 13-round series makes its way to Aonia Pass MX in Washington, Ga. this weekend, March 15 and 16, for the 12th running of the Maxxis General GNCC.

Team Maxxis’ Borich earned his sixty-eighth career win at the Mud Mucker GNCC opener last weekend, where he currently sits tied with 8-Time GNCC champion Barry Hawk for the most career overall wins. While Borich may be on the verge of breaking history in America’s Premier off-road racing series, the 5-Time champ continues to have a humble outlook on the 2014 season.

“I think it’s really cool to be tied with Barry Hawk for all-time wins but right now I’m just taking it race by race and staying focused on getting the win each weekend,” said the reigning champ Borich.

Borich came through with the victory at Round 1 but Chris Bithell was his fiercest competition all afternoon. Bithell led a majority of the two-hour race, succumbing to Borich’s patented last-lap pass near the end. But the Suzuki-mounted duo put in an exciting battle to the finish that could perhaps foreshadow the intense competition that’s sure to come this season. Bithell has his Precision/Maxxis Tires program dialed in and the Pennsylvania native looks more comfortable and confident than ever before.

N-Fab/AmPro Yamaha’s Walker Fowler heads into the second round with a podium finish behind him but the 2013 runner-up has high expectations for race wins this season. Since he joined the XC1 Pro ranks in 2012, Fowler has consistently increased his number of race wins each season. While it’s never easy to compete with one of the most accomplished ATV racers of all time, Fowler is quickly learning what it takes to move through the ranks.

RacingPowersports.com/CST Tires/PirateMX.com’s Adam McGill didn’t get the finish he was hoping for at the opening round as he ran into mechanical issues and didn’t finish the race. However, McGill holds the #3 plate from 2013 and the West Virginia native is expected to return to the lead battle this weekend at Round 2.

DWT Racing’s Jarrod McClure put forth an impressive ride in Florida, finishing fourth in the XC1 Class. McClure is joined by a talented field of riders, all looking to secure podium finishes this season. Ohio’s Josh Merritt proved to be a strong contender in his debut XC1 season, finishing fifth in the class at Round 1. Other notable contenders include BNR Motorsports/Loctite’s Kevin Yoho, who suffered from a mechanical issue last weekend, DeRisi Racing/Team Woodhead’s Braden Henthorn,Yamaha/GBC/HMF’s Johnny Gallagher, Waynesburg Yamaha/GT Thunder/GBC’s Jeff Pickens, Dave Bayless Motorsports/Dirtworks/DC Cycles-backed Brycen Neal, Indiana’s Craig Bowman  and Waynesburg Yamaha’s Jay Shadron.

The XC2 Pro Am championship is anyone’s game with a field of talented riders such as Round 1 XC2 winner N-Fab/AmPro Yamaha’s Cole Richardson, who also finished fourth overall for the day. SICC Racing’s Indiana duo of Marshal Goings and Fred Marley have proven to be tough competitors this season, while BNR Motorsports/Loctite/Lobar’s Thomas Koontz Jr. heads into this weekend with third place in the point standings.

The all-new 4x4 Pro Class made its debut in GNCC Racing this season, pitting the fastest 4x4 racers in the sport all in one premier class. Can-Am X-Team’s Kevin Trantham heads into the second round of racing with the early points lead after taking the inaugural class win and 10 a.m. overall last weekend. UXC Racing/Factory Polaris-backed Michael Swift was running in the lead pack until a mechanical issue took him out of the podium battle. ATV Parts Plus/Can-Am’s Bryan Buckhannon came in second, with Coldcock Whiskey/Polaris-backed rider Rick Cecco rounding out the overall podium. Other heavy hitters in the 4x4 Pro Class include BNR Motorsports/Can-Am’s Robert Smith and Can-Am’s Jordan Phillips.

The Schoolboy Class once again draws in some of the fastest up-and-comers in the sport, including Westley Wolfe, Cody Collier and now the addition of 2013 Youth Champion Hunter Hart. All three young guns will be vying for the overall wins, along with the 4x4 Pros, this season.

Youth ATV racing will take place Saturday at 8 a.m., followed by amateurs, 4x4 Pro and Women at 10 a.m., and the top amateurs and pros at 1 p.m. Following Saturday’s afternoon race, UTV racing will take place at 4:30 p.m.

Adult (12+) gate admission is $20 for the full weekend and $10 for kids (6-11). Kids five and under are free. All admission includes pro pit access. Local racers are invited to compete at this event, as GNCC Racing offers classes for riders of all skill and experience levels. The amateur racer entry fee is $40 and riders can sign up at the track.
