GNCCRacing.com: How's it going today?
Kenny Shick: Really good considering school got cancelled today!
Sounds fun! So, tell everyone about yourself.
I'm 18 years old, I live in New Castle, Pennsylvania with my mom, dad, my brother Damen and sister Brittany. I'm currently a senior at Mohawk High School. When I'm not racing I like to ride dirt bikes, mountain bike, play basketball and hang out with friends.
How did you get started racing?
Well, I started racing about 3 years ago. This past year was my first full season of racing. Cole Richardson started going to some of the local races and I went along to watch and decided I wanted to try it. It just took off from there and I knew this was what I wanted to do.
Are you ready to get back to GNCC Racing?
Who isn't? I've been ready since the last race. I just got back from Georgia last week from racing a round of the SORCS Winter Series. I raced the Pro class and I ended up getting 4th. There’s still a lot of things I really want to work on for next season, and one of those is my fitness.
How about heading to a new round in Florida, how do you feel about that?
I think it's awesome to have a new track but I'm sure going to miss River Ranch considering I got my first GNCC win there last year.
So tell us how your 2013 season went.
It went ok, not really the way I wanted it to go. I really struggled with consistency the whole season. I learned a lot this past season and I know what I need to work on for the 2014 season.
You top 3 guys all had a pretty close battle all season didn't you?
Yeah, the three of us, Daryk Pitzer, Cam Bruce and I went back and forth all season long. It really made the season fun and exciting. Can't wait to race with them in 2014.
What was it like racing against those guys?
It's really cool considering we all live about 30 minutes from each other and ride to with one another from time to time. They were tough competition.
What was the biggest highlight of the season for you?
For sure it was The Ironman. I got the holeshot and never really looked back. I got 32nd overall and won by more than 3 minutes.
Looking back, is there anything you would've liked to have changed through the 2013 season?
Really wish I could’ve been more consistent like I was the second half of the season. I've been riding indoor motocross every Sunday, and I'm starting to work with my new trainer next week to get in the best shape possible for the upcoming season.
What are your plans for 2014?
My plans are to try to go for the championship in College A and get a few amateur overalls.
What do you hope to accomplish in 2014?
To stay consistent and win the College A championship and to get a top 25 National number.
Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you like to thank?
First and foremost my mom and dad, without them I wouldn't be racing. Ryan Smith at BNR for making sure my bike is always ready to go and pitting me every race. Austin Parks at Spider Graphix, GBC Motorsports, Fly Racing, Gaerne, Leatt and all my friends at the races.
