Unadilla GNCC- Battle to the Finish for Martinez
Summer break is officially over, and the FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team Maxxis riders and crew are back on the East coast. Held in New Berlin, New York- our guys and girls came well prepared for race day.
Our Women's rider Kacy Martinez lined up for the AM race along side her fellow-competition with one goal in mind- gaining valuable championship points. Throughout the two-hour race, Martinez and FMF/KTM rider Maria Forsberg battled back and forth in hopes of a first place finish. "The track couldn't have been any better with all the rain from the night before! The dirt tacked up great to make for awesome racing conditions. I really enjoyed the flow of the track and felt really, really good on my KTM," Martinez commented.
Martinez worked her way past Forsberg and into the lead, when she came in contact with a lapper that resulted in a crash. She picked herself and the bike back up to work hard to catch back up. But with time running out, Martinez would have to settle with a second place finish.
"It felt awesome to run up front and have an awesome battle with Maria! But it was a major bummer when I collided with a lapper while I was out in front. I fell it would have been a battle to the finish. I am really happy with my performance and conditioning. The next three rounds are going to be awesome!" Martinez concluded.
Top 5 For Rory Mead in XC1 at Unadilla
After hard conditioning during the Summer break, our XC1 racer Rory Mead shined this weekend. Off the start, Mead found himself in a top ten position and immediately began to work his way up. By the second lap, Mead moved into third place and focused on keeping pace to take the final podium spot. With just two laps to go, Mead made a small mistake that set him back just one position, and ultimately in fourth place to the finish.
In the XC2 class, Travis Coy had a consistent ride inside the top 20. Finishing 14th in class, Coy currently sits 7th overall in class points.
