Welcome [back] to Quick Fill.

Although we’re on a summer break from the GNCC season, the folks in our office have been wide open with the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Motocross the past month. As a result of the crazy time zones, wacky sleeping patterns, and excess travel schedules, Quick Fill got a little bit, well, delayed. So my apologies on that but rest assured that we’re back in action for the rest of the summer. Just a disclaimer, next week’s entry may be a little short since we’ll be mid-week into racing at The Ranch but it sounds like we have a few GNCC Racers to report on so all will be good there.

Also, RacerTV.com will be bringing the band back together next week at Loretta Lynn’s to stream live coverage of the racing from Tuesday – Saturday, so while you’re sitting at home or work wishing you were at the races, don’t forget to jump onto RacerTV.com and listen/watch the action go down at the Ranch. The format will be very similar to what we’ve been doing with GNCC LIVE except one very important difference, YOU CAN SEE THE WHOLE TRACK! I know, crazy, huh? I’m excited to be a part of the show for this event, as I’ll be reporting from the sidelines and grabbing interviews just like GNCC. It should be a fun week and we’re hoping to learn more about the equipment and show to be able to give you all an even better viewing experience when we return to racing in Sept.

Roz_KRSo keeping up with the GNCC community via social media is a beautiful thing because sometimes it’s the only means we have to see what everyone is up to over the break. One thing I’ve noticed plastered all over the place is the new stand up Jet Ski fad happening everywhere. Several of the racers have invested in an all-new kind of training program for the summertime, which still involves riding motos all day long but this time in a big refreshing body of water, rather than the hot and dry woods. I’ve seen Kailub Russell, Walker Fowler, Johnny Gallagher, Chris Bach Charlie Mullins, Thad DuVall and Layne Michael and several other Pros jumping on board and it’s good to see them having a little fun in the off time.

If anyone has a cool riding story or wants to send in race results from the weekends, please feel free to email me at [email protected].

I’m going to cut it short here and pass things along to Mr. Jared Bolton. Like I said before, if you’ve got something newsworthy or just want to share race results from a local race, please feel free to shoot me an email.

@JaredBolton:

We’re ticking away the weeks of this summer break, and while there’s still plenty of time left before we return to racing, it’s going fly by pretty quick before we know it. For many though, it’s time to head to Loretta’s for the Amateur National, which is easily one of the biggest motocross events in the world. There are a few familiar names qualified this year. As you look down the rider list you’ll not only see Aaron Plessinger, who’s an experienced Loretta’s racer, but also the likes of Takeshi Koikeda who qualified in the 25+ and 35+ classes. There’s also a familiar name from a few years ago, Hayden O’Kelley, who qualified in the Two Stroke B/C class. It should be interesting to keep an eye on these guys and see how they shape up.

IXR_5014Last week I began looking at some of the various amateur classes, starting with the A classes on the bikes. Now I want to dive in and see how things are shaping up with the A classes on the quad side. Starting with the College A class, Jay Shadron has put his head down and pulled out a bit points lead over Marshall Goings, but Cole Richardson sits very close in third just two points behind Goings.

Duck Lloyd has a pretty big lead on the Junior A class after winning the first 3 rounds but the rest of the class is coming on strong with Nathan Hornacek sitting second ahead of Martin Christofferson, but Michael Marley is just two points behind him, and to make things even more interesting, Wes Kinsley is just a single point behind Marley! Pretty tight racing in the top 5 of that Junior A class!

Todd Demaree has a strong points lead in the Vet-A class with Cory Blinkiewicz in second ahead of Matt Pierce. Brian Schmid is in control of the Senior A/B points lead with John Glauda Sr in second and Leroy Shook third. All of these guys are within 16 points of each other, which will surely make for some great racing there as well.

i-CMDQCfw-LSwitching over to the morning bikes, Rick Matteson has won the past 7 rounds in the Super Senior A class and holds the points lead over Steve Thaxton while David Harris sits third. In the Masters A class, “The Southeast Legend” Vance Earl has dominated so far this season, winning every round he’s raced (he skipped Kentucky and The Penton) and holds the points lead over Brian Jasper.

As for racing over the summer break, I’ve been in on some group text messages and apparently there’s a pretty big challenge shaping up among some of the XC1 and XC1 bike and quad racers. This weekend the Midwest will play host to a round of MAXC racing on Saturday, and an IXCR race on Sunday. Apparently, Chris Bach, Adam Bonneur and Derrik Allen, along with Walker Fowler, Johnny Gallagher and an attempted additional quad partner to be found later, will be racing their respective machines at Saturday’s MAXC event, then are going to swap machines for Sunday’s IXCR!

This will be a team format, with Bach/Gallagher, Bonneur/Fowler and Allen/Whoever (maybe himself) taking the event finishes from each other, combining them and scoring them in a motocross format. The team with the best finishes wins what they’ve dubbed “The Barry Hawk Award”.

I really wish I could be there to document this because I think it could be pretty interesting. If there’s anyone who can be at both of those rounds, owns a video camera, and knows a thing or two about shooting, let me know and maybe we can arrange something really cool. Drop me a line at [email protected]

And with that, I’m going out on a high note! Hope everyone has a great weekend and until next time, Bolt-On says bye.

It's weeks like these that make one realize the GNCC Summer Break is not necessarily a bad thing. Summer decided to break with a vengeance and the stories of cold rainy weekends will most likely not be on the most recent topics list of conversation. What will be though? Heck I don't know but something interesting is brewing right now and we may not realize full details for quite some time.

Many of you know Mike "Super" Trapp and how each round of GNCC he has tallied for years the overall standings for the GNCC ATV racing. It is posted on Quad Zone and many people follow and keep up to date where everyone stands in the overall of the youth and morning classes as well as standings for everyone outside the top twenty in the afternoon. It is a lot of fun to see things stack up over the year especially in the final rounds of the season. Mike has been keeping up with all the numbers but has not been to the last couple of rounds. It seems he has stretched his efforts about as far as they can go right now. Here is a note I got from him before Snowshoe GNCC:

Rodney,

Here are the numbers after the last round. Sorry I didn’t make it to the last round. The engine on the quad blew up, so I wasn’t able to make it to Snowshoe either. Not sure if I will have the funds to have something to ride after the summer break either right now. I think 70 GNCC’s is the max for my race quad.

Thanks for all your support,
Mike Trapp

Wow! 70 races on one machine. Unbelievable. I think if nothing else someone should step up and help him build this thing to see if he can stretch it to 100!! Surely as much as Mike has done for us over the years there are some folks that can get together and make something happen.

As far as the work Mike has been doing his job has been exciting as ever in 2013. This year seems to be even more exciting in the morning races where Cody Collier leads the standings heading into the break from the Schoolboy. The way it looks now before throw-aways come into play is that nearly anyone of 20 or so riders could end up pulling things out in the end if things work in their favor. Here is how things look in the top 20:

The Youth ranks have been equally as exciting this season as well. Hunter Hart has all but dominated the division but it seems his mirror finishes with Chris Borich may put the former Youth Class Division National Champion at risk for another. This will be especially tough on Hart as he was plagued with injury in 2012 and not able to recapture his title from 2011. Will this be his season? I guess we need to keep an eye on Chris Borich's results to see how Hunter will do next round. The bad news for Hart is that Borich lost his 3rd race this season at Snowshoe and he has all summer to dwell on it. Here are the standings from Super Trapp.

It appears though it may be hot and break time, some continue to race the local series around the east coast some of the GNCC top riders have been making sure they know how to ride when it is dry...just in case we have a dry fall.

Here is a quick report I got from Dustin Hendershot:

GNCC riders were ruling the WEXCR double-header weekend in the Pro classs. Braden Henthorn with the win Saturday, McGill 2nd on the roll 250r two stroke, I finished 3rd, Blake Tornes 4th (College A), Tyler Wears 5th (College A).

Sunday McGill got the Pro win, followed by Braden Henthorn, then me in 3rd again, Brycen Neal 4th, Blake Tornes 5th.

Also we had some great bike pro finishes too. Thad Duvall, Layne Michael and Bob Dunlap were all there. Saturday the Pro top 5 bikes were Layne Michael, Justin Sode, Doug Blackwell, Bob Dunlap, Nathan Thornhill. Sunday was Layne Michael, Thad Duvall, Sam Evans, Justin Sode, Bob Dunlap.

Sounds like good times for sure.

That's it for now. Till next time, God Bless Your Heart and All Your Vital Organs.
