It’s #ThrowBackThursday, time for another edition of Quick Fill and one day closer to the weekend, what is there to dislike about this day? The only immediate thing that comes to mind is the icky weather and the fact that there isn’t a GNCC this weekend, but other than that I would say the summer is flowing along nicely here in West By God Virginia. Now that we have the Fourth of July weekend out of the way, it doesn’t seem like too much longer until racing resumes with Round 10 in New York.

But for now, let’s focus on the topic at hand and that is #ThrowBackThursday or #tbt if you will. If the previous sentence speaks to you like something out of the German dictionary then you’re probably over the age of 40 or don’t use social media, namely Twitter and Instagram. Please don’t be offended if you’re over 40 and don’t have a social media account, that’s not what this is about. I’m actually relaying some knowledge to those folks so they can feel a little more in tune and maybe even have a topic to bring up to the kids at the dinner table.

Anyway, #ThrowBackThursday is a fad that prompts people to post a photo from “back in the day” on their social media accounts and the #ThrowBackThursday hashtag serves as a way to track the topic on the web. It’s a cool way to look back on past events and share memories with your digital friends. So this week, we asked our GNCC Racing Twitter followers to send us their favorite old school photos and tag them #tbtGNCC and you’ll see them scattered throughout today’s edition of Quick Fill. So hope you all enjoy a little nostalgia from the GNCC Racing community this week!
It’s always a struggle to follow along with who’s doing what over the summer break so if anyone out there has a cool story or wants to let us know what’s happening with their team or rider, please feel free to shoot an email to [email protected].
I did speak with Team UXC Racing’s Michael Swift today and it’s no surprise to hear those guys aren’t slowing down one bit over the break. It sounds like Michael and his teammate Don Higbee are gearing up to race the Heartland Challenge 10-hour race IRONMAN STYLE! That’s a long time to be on any kind of machine. Heck, that’s a long time to be inside a car! But the craziest part is that Michael is suiting up on Friday night before the 10-hour to race 4 hours on the Side-by-Side with co-pilot Kevin Trantham and then waking up the next day to hammer down for almost half the day. All I can say is props to those guys for being so tough…
Michael also mentioned that there could be some big news coming out of the Team UXC Racing camp soon, concerning a guest appearance later in the season. So stay tuned for more information on that front.

Our buddy David Scearce from 318photo shared a small gallery from the Pro Bikes at Snowshoe, which you can take a look at right HERE. He has some pretty cool shots of opening ceremonies and some of the other cool stuff that comes along with the picturesque surroundings of the resort.
That’s going to do it for me today. I’m trying to mentally prepare myself for a weekend without dirtbikes or ATVs (the first weekend off in quite some time) and I honestly don’t even know what I’m going to do with myself! Hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend doing whatever it is you all choose to do. Here’s Bolton.
@JaredBolton:
So we’re officially full swing into the summer break, and as to be expected, the flow of overly interesting info has kind of slowed down recently. As I mentioned before, a lot of riders are taking some time off right now to take some vacations or just generally take a little time away from their machines in order to get a fresh start soon.
Of course there’s also still some racing going on as this weekend will play host to another round of OMA racing in Tennessee. Heading into this round, Russell Bobbitt holds down the points lead over Nick Fahringer but Kailub Russell has shown that he’s beginning to figure out the OMA series and is only 1 point behind Fahringer. It could be pretty interesting to keep an eye on how things end up.
There’s also another round of the National Enduro Series coming up next weekend. Charlie Mullins still holds a pretty commanding lead in the National Enduro Series. I’ll try to dive more into it next weekend but this should also be another event to keep an eye on as things are beginning to shape up for a final championship battle push there.
Overall though, things tend to get kind of quiet over the summer break, which gives us a good opportunity to take a glance at how some of the amateur class championship battles are shaping up. While it’s said many times about many different things, the amateur classes truly do show great examples of what GNCC Racing is all about.
Starting on the bike side with the Open-A class, Josh Barker currently holds a pretty solid lead over Bob Dunlap, who has actually had a couple of tough races this season. In the 250-A class, Zach Love is running away with the points lead at the moment while Austin Lee sits 2nd ahead of Anthony Stone in third. Triston Landrum seemed to start off kind of slow in the 200-A class but has really come on strong in the past few races and has worked his way into the points lead ahead of Ryan Slopko and Mack Jones who are within 3 points of each other.

One of the more interesting classes this season has been the 4-Stroke A Lites. Ryan Belue holds the class points lead over Craig Delong but Trevor Bollinger has won every race since Steele Creek, after skipping the opening rounds in Florida and Georgia. Bollinger has also landed quite a few top amateur finishes this season as well. Joe Marsh holds a commanding points lead in the Vet-A class, while “Factory” Phil Smith also has a commanding lead in the Senior-A class. No surprise from Phil Smith there as he’s been the guy to beat in the Vet-A ranks for a number of years (it took the likes Scott Summers to top him for a class championship back in 2008!)

Those are just a few of the classes to look at but we’ve got a couple of months of summer to get through, so we’ll save more for the coming weeks. Now, the thing to keep in mind is that only your best 9 races count in the amateur classes, and your 4 worst or missed races are the ones that are dropped. That will ultimately have an effect on some.
Well, I feel like I’ve been cutting myself short for a long time now but we’ve still got a long time left in the break so I’ll save some more for the coming weeks. That’s all for now. Until next time, Bolt-On out!
Thanks, Jared. Passing things along to Rodney Tomblin now.

@HotRodney22:
It kind of seems a little strange not getting ready for a GNCC this weekend. The summer break is here but I am not so sure that too many folks are taking it as easy as the schedule seems to be making things right now. There is plenty of racing in a number of local and regional series that are keeping folks plenty busy.
This weekend I am headed to the great Unadilla Valley Sports Center. No I am not anticipating the GNCC series to resume, I am headed there for round 8 of the Mtn. Dew ATV Motocross National Championship and it should be a good one as the championships there are heating up too. The pro class looks like it has a dominator this year but most every other class is a challenge for its competitors.
CaleC1972: @GNCCRacing not sure if this counts but its @bhawk8 racing GNC MX at Mt Morris in 96 or 97 #tbtgncc
Like GNCC, ATV MX has its ringers but the racing is off the charts this season. I sit and try to assess the Amsoil GNCC season and it becomes all too clear today that maybe I needed the break too. Talk about a case of writers block. Normally I am anticipating the next or reeling from the last race and there is plenty to think about. Today though all I think is "Will Chris Borich be able to break the record of all time wins this season? Do they have the champ doing some back steps right now to get his bearings?" and "How is this all going to pan out between Charlie and Kailub on the bike side of things? And will Thad Duvall come back after the break and throw a curve ball at everyone? And what about Chris Bach?
BigTom133: #tbt my first GNCC race and my first holeshot at the 2009 yadkinville stomp #tbtGNCC
He is quietly building toward something huge that may end up surprising us all." That's what I am thinking but no sense in trying to deduce it all as we have plenty of break left for that. I will however comment a little on the one thing that has intrigued me is the weather. I would say that I am not the only one feeling this way. Don't get me wrong because all in all it has been a spectacular season and even with the unusually moister conditions it is truly one of the greatest seasons on record. The racing to like the weather has been unpredictable and each week someone leaves with a little mud in their eye and some races has left everyone with mud in their eyes making for some roller coaster rides in the point standings that most will not be sorted out till the Ironman in late October.

The final four rounds of the 2013 Amsoil GNCC will undoubtedly carry the heaviest weight in a championship that it could ever hold. Nearly every move must be calculated from this point forward. Some will use this time to energize and regroup. Some will use this time to test and focus on finding that little something. I will offer a little advice though as we roll through this summer, don't forget to have a little fun. Take a few days and smell some roses.
That's it for now. Till next time, God Bless Your Heart and All Your Vital Organs.
