This season we’ve seen possibly the most competitive Women’s bike classes of all time. One of those front runner is that of Becca Sheets. With 3 podiums in a row, Becca is coming on stronger as the season progresses. We caught up with Becca to talk about the 2013 season and more.

GNCCRacing.com: How's it going today?
Becca Sheets: Pretty good, just on my lunch break at work.

Lunch is good! Are you recovering well from The Penton?
Yeah, actually I am. Yesterday I kept telling people I wasn't sore, until I went on a road bike ride last night where I quickly found my soreness. But I feel good today! (laughs)

How did the race go for you?
It went okay. I was last off the start and played catch up for the first few miles. The first two laps were pretty muddy, but the track ended up perfect. I went back and forth a couple times with Kacy [Martinez] the last two laps. I just kept myself off the ground as much as possible and rode my own race.

How did it feel to land on the podium again?
It’s a pretty awesome feeling to be up there and see my hard work paying off. Especially with the level of competition this year in the Women's class. Plus it's always nice to get that Yamaha on the podium.

So how has the rest of your 2013 season been going?
It's great! We’ve had some struggles here and there but they haven't slowed me down too much. I have some awesome quad riders to ride and train with daily. They keep me focused on my goals.

What do you hope to accomplish through the rest of this season?
I really want an overall podium. I know I can do it. I'm also hoping that I can stay consistent in the top three in my class and stay on that podium.

So let's go back. How did you get started in the off-road world
I did a little trail riding when I was younger with my dad but I never really wanted to race in the woods. I was a total chicken. I met a few friends along the way, including Walker, who convinced me to run my first GNCC in 2011 at the Penton. Honestly, it was the worst race of my life. I had blisters, I was sick to my stomach, and I was sore for days. Believe it or not, I loved it! I enjoy the challenge and I love pushing myself to do better.

What was it like to make the transition from the motocross world to GNCC?
It was interesting to say the least. The last few years I actually raced motocross, I had quite a few injuries that set me back. I was kind of fading out and didn't enjoy it as much as I did growing up. As soon as I rode my first GNCC I knew I had that flame back. The people and the competition on this side of things is what I enjoy most.

What was the toughest part for you?
Trees! (laughs) I ruined quite a few radiators, with radiator guards I might add, in my first year. I've learned a lot since then.

What has been the biggest accomplishment of your career?
Just this year so far as a whole. I've been given a great opportunity riding for AmPro Yamaha this year and I’ve met some great people along the way who keep me motivated.

What do you hope to accomplish in the future?
With continued hard work and experience I hope to be able to get some race wins and championships against the best female racers in the world like Maria, Jessica, and Kacy.

What advice would you give to aspiring Women racers?
I'd suggest any women thinking of trying their hand at racing should get out here and give it a shot ASAP. Women's racing is growing so rapidly and there are so many opportunities that it is a great time to get involved. I have met so many great people and had such amazing experiences over the years. Just be prepared to work hard, because these girls are every bit as competitive and driven as the guys.

Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you like to thank?
The whole AmPro Yamaha team. GYTR, Yamalube, FMF, Kenda, Wiseco, Leatt, MSR, Shoei, Sidi, Stuk MX Graphics, Factory Connection, Pro Taper, Cycra, DP Brakes, John Kurea. My whole pit crew. Walker and The Fowler family. Johnny Gallagher, Mark Notman, and of course, my dad and mom.
