Team UXC Racing Report - Ironman

Shelbyville, TN - Round 12 of the Grand National Cross Country series was held in Crawfordsville, Indiana this past weekend.  The “Ironman” is one of the circuit’s most popular events each year.  Over the past few years the Ironman has adopted the color pink for the weekend to show its support for Breast Cancer awareness month.  Team UXC was in attendance and was supporting the cause in their pits, as well as on the track.

With cool and damp conditions in the weather forecast, Team UXC was optimistic of the capabilities their Can-Am 4x4 machines.  With rain most of the day on Friday, they prepped their machines for a very muddy race.

Teammate, Cliff Beasley (#203), seated on the second row took a second place holeshot off the line.  During the first lap, he battled between first and second position.  Quickly after the start of the second lap, Beasley took over the lead and pulled away from the competition.  The #203 would run a solid race working his way through the mud sections and across the finish line with a class win and a very impressive second overall podium finish for the morning race.

“The 1st lap was muddy and slick, as we expected, but by the end of the 2nd lap it had tacked up and the only trouble areas were at the creek crossings.  I tried to pick good lines and keep moving forward.  I want to thank all of our sponsors for their support. I am proud to be able to put them on the overall podium,” stated Beasley.

Teammate, Michael Swift (#205), took a fifth place start from the third row.  On the start of the second lap, Swift gained ground on his competition one by one moving his way into the lead before the end of the lap.  With two laps remaining, #205 battled his way to the class lead.  By the beginning of the final lap he had built a 49 second lead over his competition.  Unfortunately, misfortune struck on the final lap, with only 5 miles to the checkered flag.  Swift had a mechanical issue with the fuel system, which dropped him back to a 3rd place finish.

“The Can-Am Outlander really worked and handled well today.   I have spent most of the year trying and testing new things and thanks to all my sponsors products and input it’s all coming together,” commented Swift.

Team UXC would like to give a big thanks to SSI decals, Rox Speed FX, Fasst Co. and Spider Grips for their products which allowed them to support the Breast Cancer Awareness weekend in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Team UXC will be in their home state of Tennessee in two weeks to compete in the last round of the season at the infamous Lorretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch.
