Quick Fill #30: This Week in GNCC

Thursday, July 26, 2012 | 6:15 PM

Welcome to Quick Fill.

It’s the end of July and that means one thing for the folks in the Racer Productions office: Loretta Lynn’s. Actually, it’s more like the folks out of the RP office because at this point there are only a handful of us left. Most of the crew has migrated south for the 2012 Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship and for once, I am one of the few still hanging in the office. I figure that if I’m going to spend two weeks down there, I might as well wait until the last minute to head out. Once the dirtbike racing culminates, the ATV crew heads in for the final round of the AMA ATV Motocross National Championship Series so we’ve got our hands full in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee this month.

There isn’t a whole lot to talk about on the GNCC front to be honest. Following social media it seems like a lot of people are hitting up local races and finding the off-season hot spots to stay sharp for when Unadilla comes around in September.

We’re still working out the bugs on the website, therefore we’re still not able to post photos here in Quick Fill. But rest assured, we will figure it out and get you all more photos than you know what to do with”¦.eventually.

I assume @HotRodney22 is making his way toward the Loretta Lynn Ranch, where cell and Internet service is optional and sparse. So I will pass it along to Bolt-On for now.

@JaredBolton:

It's kind of hard to believe it but even though we're full blast into the summer break, things are still pretty hectic all around. Between vacations, local races, general fun summer activities and whatever else, it seems like there really isn't even much of a break involved in this "summer break". But hey, you know that you wouldn't want it any other way, would you? Didn't think so. The things about racers, be it bike, ATV or UTV, is that we have to tendency to not care for much downtime, and always occupy our time with some sort of crazy and fun activities, but I digress.

One piece of news that all you Charlie Mullins fans will be glad to hear is that Charlie is back racing! He took the win over Robby Norwood and Matthew Nix at last weekend's NCHSA event in Taylorsville, NC. Charlie said he felt like he was back to 100% and I believe it because he was looking pretty good on the bike. It makes you hope that Charlie has broken that bad luck streak he seemed to be plagued with this season. Hopefully Charlie comes back strong and makes some even more interesting racing at the front of the pack.

Speaking of that racing at the front of the pack, and it seems like I bring this up every week, but how can you not be excited to see what kind of battles could shape up between Kailub Russell and Paul Whibley through this last part of the season? When it comes to any of the final four rounds, it's hard to pick a clear favorite between those two. It could shape up to be a battle down to the wire, and what fan wouldn't want to see that? Our "Final Four" could very well end up being the best races of the season.

While the three riders I've mentioned are the ones that you hear more about than anyone, what about the other guys who have shown they can run at the front of the pack as well? Chris Bach seems to be adjusting to the Yamaha well and had an impressive ride in Ohio. There's also Thad Duvall who's been a consistent top 5 threat, but hasn't been able to sneak onto the podium just yet. Jordan Ashburn has had some slight struggles this year but has also ran with the leaders at times. And what about Nate Kanney? Many seem to have counted Nate out, but two of the final four are a couple of his best tracks, with Unadilla and Ironman treating him well in the past.

When you break it down like that, it shows you that there is potential for some great racing when we return. It may seem a long way off, but it will be here before you know it. In fact, there's racing to be done for some riders this weekend as the National Enduro series returns to action in Pennsylvania. Steward Baylor still holds the points lead and with a little bit of a break for his wrist, Steward very well could be back on track to snag yet another win.

Well, I'm going to cut it here this week as I'm heading to RedBud this weekend to cover Round 9 of the ATV Motocross Series for RacerTV before heading to Loretta's on Sunday. Before I go, I'd like to give a shout out to my friends Heather Crowley and George Mac Eachern who will be getting married AT this weekend's National Enduro in PA. Huge congrats to you guys, and hate I can't make it! That's all for me. Until next time, Bolt-On out!Â
