The weather at this years "John Penton GNCC" was a little different than the slop at last years event but the result for me was the same. Â  Last year I had raced past my Suzuki team mate Josh Strang for the win. This year I battled it out with my JG Offroad, GEICO, Monster Energy Kawasaki team mate Jimmy Jarrett, only opening a lead on the last lap.

Track conditions were near perfect with tacky soil and some fresh trails.  From the start I grabbed a sweet hole shot and led the race out to about the 3 mile marker.  The track turned off the used quad trail and into some tight virgin woods, I missed the arrows and ran wide allowing Glenn Kearney past and into the lead. Glenn set a good pace and blazed a line through the woods till we popped back out on some used trail several miles later.  About the 9 mile marker I inherited the lead as Glenn dropped his front end in a mud hole and flopped over the bars.
I led the way as we came out onto the Moto X track after completing the 12 mile loop and passed through scoring and the pits.  Jimmy had moved into second and was chasing me hard as we began to pull away from the rest of the pack.  I lead the way for most of the race although several times Jimmy took full advantage of lappers running mobile chicanes and had his turn at leading.
Two and a half hours of battling it out on the demanding track with temperatures touching the 90s/30s it would come down to the last lap.  I led the way as we left the scoring beginning the final lap.  I upped the pace and began to open a small gap over Jimmy.  I kept the intensity up right to the finish to claim the win and move back into the points lead.  Jimmy rode a great race and we had pushed each other close to 2 minutes clear of Josh Strang in third place.
