GNCC Rd 7 Race Report. Sparta, KY

Sunny skies, hay fields and high pollen greeted Team Cardiostack in Sparta, Kentucky. Friday had all of the team members participate in a photo shoot with Thad Josey (ATV Rider Magazine) for an upcoming article on the team (Make sure to check it out!). Following the photo shoot the team riders finished prepping their race bikes for what they thought was going to be a mud race, thanks to the weather channel forecasters!  However, the rain never came and race conditions were almost perfect.

The first class that team members were lined up in at the start was the highly competitive College A class. Team members Nick Mills and Jonathon Shaff battled it out for the class holeshot with Jonathon coming out in front.  Nick would go on to have a great race aboard the Pompton Suzuki LTR450, holding onto the 2nd place spot until a last lap incident with a tree caused a crash. Nick tried to blast through two big trees and his rear tire clipped one really hard cart wheeling his bike and body to the floor. Nick was glad he was running his RPM Dominator II axle as it took the hit without bending at all, allowing him to finish the race in a 7th place spot. Jonathon had a few set-up problems and struggled on to finish in 12th in class.

Junior A class rider Phil Cole ran into problems in the 4th corner when he avoided a crashed rider but in the course of things had a slight dismount and his lower leg was ran over. A key reason Phil was able to continue racing was due to the high protection offered by his FLY Racing protective gear. Phil managed to catch back up to the rest of the class, however, luck wasn’t on his side as he encountered Kill switch problems and the bike repeatedly stopped running.

Matt Zeleski used his GBC Afterburner tires to power his Suzuki LTR450 out to a great start in the Senior A class. Matt had a solid ride finishing 6th in class.

Schoolboy rider Ty Seiverd was on target for another Top 10 performance until a last lap tangle with a tree. Ty managed after several minutes to pull his bike off the tree and continue, finishing the race in 19th.

David Hunsacker struggled with the heat in the morning race, finishing in 31st in the C 30+ class.

With a lot of bad luck and misfortune at Rd 7 the team is looking for a strong comeback at the next round in 3 weeks. Come and check out the Team Cardiostack/Pompton Suzuki/GBC Tires Race Bikes at Rd 8 at the Yadkinville, NC GNCC on June 21st!
