Coastal Racing is coming down the mountain from the annual Snowshoe GNCC, RD. 9 of the series, and one of the most prestigious stops on the calendar. Based at the Snowshoe Resort, the racecourse traverses up and down the mountain for a challenging course.
In the XC1 class, Ricky Russell #212 is fresh out of surgery after suffering an injury at the Mason-Dixon GNCC just three weeks prior. Russell fought every step of the way and persevered to finish 7th O/A on the toughest course of the season while dealing with an injury. In the XC2 class, Johnny Girroir #969 got back to his winning ways, leading a majority of the race and extending his points lead going into the summer break. In the XC3 class, Ben Parsons #300 woke up Sunday morning to an illness that continued to worsen throughout the day. Ben tried his best and lined up for the 3-hour main event, but was only able to finish 3 laps before succumbing to the illness and finishing 9th.
In the amateur classes, Alex Patterson #232 had a season-best result of 9th in the 4-Stroke A Lites class, steadily progressing by the end of the race. Shawn Remington #63 suffered from some mechanical problems fairly early in the race and pulled out early, relegating him back to 9th in 40+ A. Lane Whitmer #587 pulled off his 8th class win of the year and clinched the 250B championship with four rounds remaining. After the summer break, Lane will move up to the A class for the remainder of the series.
In addition to our normal roster of racers, we hosted Cycle News' Ryan Nitzen and DirtBikeTest's Trevor Hunter as guest riders for the weekend. Hailing from California, the two media racers were out of their elements but prevailed in the end. Nitzen #411 rode the AM race and finished 13th Sportsman B out of 70+ racers. Hunter #224 contested the XC2 class, crossing the checkered flag 15th in class.
