Result: 2nd

Conditions were a little warmer than the NZ winter we have just come out of, but I’d rather it stinky hot than freezing cold any day! The down side to hot weather is dust; and we had plenty of that. Add in a huge helping of rocks and we’re set to go GNCC racing.

I grabbed the holeshot in the XC3 class and lead the first half of lap one. We caught the back of the XC2 class pretty quick but it was really hard to make passes in the dust. You had to take some big risks to get it done and I wasn’t keen on that. I had a few moments out on the fields trying to make it happen. Amongst the blinding dust somehow there was a tree growing in the middle of the track. I don’t know what side of it we were suppose to be going but I was heading straight for it.

Quick action saw a collision avoided but it certainly made me think. Jason Thomas and Jack Edmondson came by. Obviously feeling more comfortable taking some risks in the dust but I did latch onto Jack and got into a race long battle with him. In the end I came out on top and claimed second. Jason rode strong out front and took the win. Still loving the YZ 125. So much fun.
