Coastal Racing ATV Team Report: Unadilla GNCC

NEW BERLIN, N.Y. (September 12, 2017) - Coastal Racing/Answer/Maxxis/Waynesburg Yamaha ATV Team's Brycen Neal returned to the podium on Saturday with an impressive come-from-behind performance to earn 3rd overall at Round 10 of the Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC).

Neal experienced a setback right away as he got hung up off the start, forcing him to come through the pack on the opening lap. Neal put his head down for the charge but unfortunately lost more time on the new hill climb section, where he came together with another rider and got stuck on the hill. The Ohio native made his way up to the 9th place position after lap one, where he slowly climbed inside the top five with two laps to go in the two-hour race.

"It's the same story it's been all year," Neal said. "I gave it a little too much throttle off the start and got a little greedy so I went into the woods a little behind. Then I got to the new hill climb and came together with another rider, I shouldn't have tried it but I did. I got stuck on the hill and ended up falling back there with the XC2 guys so I knew I had a long day ahead of me. The bike handled so good all day, everything was on point so I was able to keep my head down and claw through the pack. It's been four years in this class and I haven't gotten a win yet, I want it real bad!"

Despite a rough start, Neal was able to finish strong and maintain 3rd overall for the day and reclaim the 3rd place position in the Overall Championship Standings with just three rounds remaining in the series.

College A (16-21)

Landers didn't get the start he was looking for as he began the opening lap outside the top 15 in class but he immediately put his head down and charged through the pack, picking off a few riders at a time. By lap three, Landers had put himself inside the top 10 but it wasn't until the final two laps that the Tennessee native really put himself into a more favorable position. After five laps of racing, Landers was able to make his way into the 5th place position - ultimately finishing 15 seconds back from 4th place.

"The Unadilla GNCC is no doubt one we want to look past," Landers said. "The day began with a bad start and then continuous issues after that. I did everything I could to push for every position I could gain but a top five was the best I was able to do. Considering the issues we kept having, I felt great on the quad and I'm ready to tackle the next race. I want to thank my Coastal Racing team and the rest of my sponsors for all that they do!"
