Westley Wolfe Race Report – Camp Coker Bullet GNCC

SOCIETY HILL, S.C. (May 7, 2017) – As the 2017 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series continues to progress, so does Westley Wolfe’s rookie season results. Three weekends ago in Society Hill, South Carolina, Wolfe had a stand out performance where he landed his first-ever top-five overall finish.

After struggling with starts most of the year, Wolfe rocketed off the line and was second through the holeshot. As he approached the woods, Wolfe lost two positions but stayed closely behind the front runners.

Soon after the checked through timing and scoring and started the second lap, Wolfe fell back to sixth behind the six-time GNCC champion, Chris Borich. Wolfe used this opportunity to challenge Borich and learn from his experience. Both Borich and Wolfe maneuvered around third, but in the process another rider caught and passed them.

After a quick pit stop for fuel and water, Wolfe, now sitting in sixth, got back on track made the pass for fifth. With only two laps to go, Wolfe continued pushing forward and scored his best finish with fifth overall.

“This race serves as a big confidence booster for the rest of the season,” said Wolfe. “I’m not even halfway through my rookie season and I have already landed a top-five finish. That podium is getting closer and it won’t be long until I end up on the box.”

As if finishing fifth wasn’t impressive enough, Wolfe was able to charge the whole race where he cut down the gap to 38 seconds on his closest competitor on the last lap. He also moved up two positions in the overall standings where he sits 13^th, and ninth in class. Wolfe gets back on the road in two weeks for the inaugural X-Factor GNCC in Peru, Indiana on May 20.
