Walker Fowler Race Report: Camp Coker Bullet GNCC
Fowler Continues His Perfect Race Season with His Fifth Win

SOCIETY HILL, S.C. (April 27, 2017) – The racing action wasn’t the only thing heating up this past Saturday, April 22, at Moree’s Sportsman’s Preserve in Society Hill, South Carolina – temperatures were hot and humid, too! With very little rainfall leading up to the Camp Coker Bullet GNCC, dust was a known factor as Walker Fowler headed to the start line for the fifth round of the 2017 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series.

As the case with most races, a good start would play a major role in the outcome of the race due to the various dusty field sections. Fowler jumped out to the early lead and lead the way into the woods, in addition to earning the holeshot award.

Fowler continued to feel pressure from other top contenders where he made small mistakes each lap. While the racing action was within 30 seconds or less, Fowler continued to push through the minor mistakes and take his fifth straight win of the season.

Disappointed with the way he performed, Fowler plans on having extra seat time within the next two weeks to touch up on his riding skills before the series moves to Indiana. “I just need to be better, but win number five feels awesome and I am extremely thankful for my family, friends, and sponsors who've helped make this opportunity possible,” reported Fowler.

Leg and arm cramps set in after the checkered flag, but with a podium presentation and the UTV race still to go Fowler took some water, Carb Sport and bananas and loaded up in his car. After ending his UTV debut early due to a mechanical issue, his improved starting position with the luck of the drawl spoon pick, was just the start to his successful second round.

Unlike his ATV start, Fowler didn’t get the best jump off the line, but was able to make up two positions around the first turn due to a crash between other competitors. Fowler carried that momentum with him and made another pass as they entered the woods.

The dust continued to be a factor, so Fowler rode conservatory, knowing that the vision issue would get better as the race progressed. Fowler made a few more passes, and rode just inside the top ten on adjusted time. Mid-way through the race he got in a heated battle with another driver where he tried everything in his power to make a pass. Unfortunately, time ran out before Fowler was able to secure the position, but the tight racing action allowed Fowler to pick up some tips for his next UTV race. After adjusted time, Fowler finished just 40 seconds off the podium in eighth.

“I am extremely satisfied to not only finish the race, but to get a top twenty finish, and actually achieve a top ten,” said Fowler. “Knowing that I just missed the podium by forty seconds means I can't wait to try and earn a top 5 in my home state race of Ohio next month!”

With 44-point lead, Fowler will head back to the front row in two weeks, May 6, for the inaugural X-Factor GNCC in Peru, Indiana, where he will look to earn his sixth-straight win of the season. Fowler will suit back up for UTV racing in one month at the John Penton GNCC in his home state of Ohio.
