Westley Wolfe Race Report – Steele Creek GNCC
MORGANTON, N.C. (April 17, 2017) – Westley Wolfe had a strong showing at the FMF Steele Creek GNCC where he finished a personal-best eighth in class and eleventh overall. Wolfe competed in Morganton, North Carolina last weekend, April 8, for the fourth round of the AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series.
Wolfe didn’t get off to the best start when the green flag waved, and he started in thirteenth once he went through timing and scoring for the first time on the shortened first lap. Wolfe used the perfect race conditions to his benefit where he began to move through the pack. With a one-lined track, passing was far and few between, but once Wolfe caught up to Landon Wolfe the two began pushing each other as they charged their competition.
Wolfe moved ahead of L Wolfe and another rider before coming up on a hill climb that was littered with lapped riders. Wolfe would face some bad luck and get stuck until the GNCC track crew came and made an alternate route. After he got free, Wolfe got stuck again allowing the top XC2 Pro-Am racers to pass him. Once back on track, Wolfe rode a consistent race to finish his best XC1 Pro finish ever with eighth in class.
“Steele Creek was eye-opening for me,” said Wolfe. “I haven’t had the best start to the season, and now I know I have the speed to not only run with these guys, but also to pass them. I’ll have my eyes set on a top-five finish in South Carolina.”
Wolfe is ranked eleventh in class and fifteenth overall as the GNCC series travels to Society Hill, South Carolina for the Camp Coker Bullet GNCC this weekend.
