The 2017 GNCC series kicked off with the VP Fuels Big Buck in front of an enormous crowd of racers & fans. Boasting record breaking entries over the 2- action packed race days in Union, South Carolina. The weather was excellent, treating racers and fans to a great weekend with cool temps in the mid 60's. The course was laid out over 11 miles of unique, hard pack, fast trail that took lap times to around 30 minutes per lap, the race totaled 6 laps and the leaders finished right at the 3 hour mark.
This race was buzzing with the highly anticipated debut of Honda's all new CRF450RX and XC1 rookie, the 2016 XC2 lites National Champion, Trevor Bollinger.
Trevor came off the line with a great jump. In the first corner Trevor experienced the full force of the XC1 class, rounding the first corner Trevor was pushed to the outside and found himself sitting in 10th place. Not content with settling in the top ten for the first lap, Trevor switched his Eric Siraton tuned CRF450RX into attack mode and began to picking his way toward the front. Soon after the first hour of racing Trevor had made his way to the top five amongst the elite of the XC1 class. From there he picked up another position to 4th OA, on his way to a strong debut finish nearly missing the podium by a mere 20 seconds.
In the highly competitive XC2 pro lites category, JCR's Austin Lee #123, rode his heart out on his JCR/Honda CRF250R, claiming the Team's second GNCC top 5 finish for the weekend.
"I am so proud of My Team's effort this weekend. We are a very young Team both Racers and crew. This was Trevor Bollinger's first career XC1 race and he did a remarkable job debuting the all-new CRF450RX in GNCC. We needed to get this race under our belt so Trevor would truly know where he stacks up against the elite GNCC racers. This race proved to be a very positive, as he now knows he belongs up front with this group of talented racers and the RX will be the bike that will catapult him to the top. Austin did a great job also, coming away with a solid race in XC2, positioning both JCR/Honda racers in the mix in their perspective classes. We all learned something today and will build on these results for next week's GNCC in Palatka, Florida, at the Daytona Bike Week. Special thanks to Eric, Teddy, Benny, Bones, Mark at Motivation, the Racers and their families for working so hard supporting the JCR/Honda effort. See you in Florida next weekend for round #2!" -- Johnny Campbell
