Coastal Racing ATV Team Report: Mountaineer Run GNCC
Wednesday, September 28, 2016 | 10:50 AM
Coastal Racing/MSR/Maxxis/Waynesburg Yamaha ATV rider Brycen Neal put forth a tremendous effort at Saturday's Mountaineer Run GNCC where he carried 2nd overall for a majority of the day. Despite a tough ending to the day, Neal remains within striking distance of a top-three finish in the overall championship standings.
Neal got off to a great start in the XC1 Pro ATV class aboard his Coastal Racing Yamaha YFZ450 as he began the opening lap in the 3rd place position. Neal quickly excelled into 2nd by lap two and from there, the Ohio native held a steady pace behind the leader. Just after the halfway point Neal began to put on a charge as he claimed the fastest lap time on the third lap.
Just before the white flag dropped, Neal began to experience an issue with the bike when he realized that his skid plate had been ripped off. Without the proper protection, the rough and rocky terrain began to take a toll on the machine and ultimately caused a mechanical issue that stopped him from finishing the race.
"We had a great race going in 2nd and I was gaining time on the leader but a couple miles before the white flag my skid was ripped off, which caused my chain to get stretched really bad and it caused a lot of problems from there," Neal said. "It was a bummer to end the day early but my Coastal Racing machine was handling like a dream and our program is making good progress in the forward direction and we can't wait to come back at the next one!"
Neal sits 4th place in the Overall Championship Standings with two rounds remaining in the 2016 season.
Team rider Eli Kiger remained sidelined at Round 11 with an injury, where he missed his second-straight event on Saturday.
