Obermeyer/MCS Racing Suzuki Race Report: Unadilla
Wednesday, September 14, 2016 | 4:25 PM
With the summer break officially over, everyone was eager to get back to the starting line and resume racing at the very popular Unadilla facility in New Berlin New York. Obermeyer/MCS Racing Suzuki Team riders Ricky Russell and Chris Douglas were very quick into the first turn, contending for the lead. The Unadilla track is one of the roughest and fastest tracks on the GNCC schedule, leaving very few places to conserve energy during the three hour event and today’s race proved to be a challenge for all racers on the track.
In the early stages on the opening lap, Ricky experienced extreme arm pump and had to slow his pace until he was able to regain feeling in his hands. Once Ricky was able to compete at his race pace, he began his charge from 13th place and moved through the field finishing in seventh position in XC1 at the end of the race. Chris Douglas experienced an impact with a tree causing him to crash during the early stages of the race. Chris attempted to continue, but ultimately had to retire from the race at the end of lap two.
Mackenzie Tricker was able to lead the opening lap for the WXC race and finished on the podium in third position at the end of the day. Mackenzie said "I was sick earlier in the week and I was not at full strength today, but I will be ready to race at The Ironman in October."
Vince Smith finished 6th in the Open A division and currently holds fourth place in the season standings, just eight points away from capturing third place. Vince continues to charge for a podium finish in the final points standing with three rounds remaining.
The next race for the Oberymeyer/MCS Racing Suzuki Team will be this weekend at the IXCR Extreme Enduro in Attica Indiana on September 17th/18th. Be sure to stop by and meet the team at this event.
