Race Report: Tomahawk and Snowshoe GNCC
July 7, 2016
The 2016 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series has officially reached its summer break. With a two month racing hiatus, Westley Wolfe holds the third place position in the XC2 Pro-Am National Championship.
Just one month ago, June 11, Wolfe raced in New York for the Tomahawk GNCC. After getting off to a top-five start, Wolfe would find himself sitting in fourth at the conclusion of the first lap. Wolfe would remain in the fourth place position throughout the remainder of the two-hour race.
On Saturday, June 25, the GNCC circuit traveled to Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia. Wolfe quickly found himself in a favorable position where he sat second. However, the Snowshoe GNCC is known as “America’s toughest race” and lived up to its name when Wolfe’s brake rotor got ripped off in the rocks. Wolfe battled back-and-fourth the entire race where he ran it without brakes switching positions from sixth to eighth. When the white flag came out Wolfe put on a final charge to make up two positions and cross the line in sixth and seventeenth overall.
“This year has been a learning experience,” said Wolfe. “I’m currently ranked third in the points as we head into summer break, but I can’t wait to get back to GNCC racing and grab another win.”
The GNCC series continues in the fall, September 10, at the iconic Unadilla Raceway. While GNCC Racing is on a break for a few months, Wolfe will stay busy racing the ATVMX series which will be at Unadilla Raceway in just a few short weeks.
