Slightly Bent Racing Race Report From Unadilla

Tuesday, September 9, 2014 | 2:35 PM

The summer break is over; cooler weather is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than a GNCC race at the famed Unadilla Raceway. Since it’s debut in 2005, “The Dilla” has been a must race track for our riders and this year proved to be just as spectacular with almost 420 quads signed up in the morning race alone. The fans in New York always provide a great atmosphere for racing and if you are ever looking for the chance to get out of the woods and into the air, this is the place to do it.

Starting off in the morning is Daniel Gwinn on his Hinson Clutch backed Suzuki.  After finishing his first lap in 4th out of 60 riders (yes, you read that correctly), Daniel ended up with a broken chain on lap 2 and returned to the pit on foot.  I’m positive that by the time you read this report he has already put this behind him and is prepping for the next race. Colton White has had his fair share of mechanical issues in the past, but today his Derisi Racing Honda put him on top of the Sport 15+ class and one step closer to a 2014 championship. Just back from his Hawaiian honeymoon is the #821 of Jason Gautier in the 24+C class. It’s great watching a rider with Jason’s enthusiasm and a 4th place finish has him anticipating the next round.  Wrapping up the morning classes is the #920 of Donnie Pruett in the Silver Masters 55+ class.  An electrical issue sent Donnie back to 5th place for the day, but he still leads his class in points. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

On to the afternoon race and the Fasst Bars backed Yamaha of Dan Webb in the Vet B class.  After spending the summer break tweaking his suspension, Dan reported a huge improvement in handling which helped lead to his 7th place finish on the day. Tied for 3rd in points, keep an eye on this class. Finally we want to welcome College B rider and North Carolina native Brandon Icard to the team.  Brandon rides and trains with our own Colton White and although he is a laid back and easygoing guy off the track, he is nothing but business when the ten second call is made. As for this race, Brandon ended up with a broken sub-frame, which ended his day early.
