GNCC Series Resumes After Summer Break, Borich Leads
The Field Into
Can-Am Unadilla GNCC This Weekend

XC2 Pro Am’s Cole Richardson Enters Round 10
With a Four-Race Winning Streak Behind Him

The 2014 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series presented by Maxxis, an AMA National Championship, returns to action this weekend, Sept. 6 and 7, following a two-month break over the summer. New York’s renowned Unadilla Valley Sports Center hosts round 10 of the 13-race series with the Can-Am Unadilla GNCC and the anticipation is at an all-time high with only 24 points separating Chris Borich and Walker Fowler in the XC1 Pro ATV championship chase.

With only four rounds remaining in the 2014 season, Team Maxxis’ Chris Borich enjoys one of the smallest cushions he’s ever experienced in his five-year reign as XC1 Pro ATV Champion. Following an impressive four-race winning streak in the middle of the season, Borich has since struggled to make the center of the podium through the last three rounds, allowing Fowler to close the points gap to a less-than-desirable stretch. However, Borich tops the standings with five overall wins behind him and a grave desire to capture his sixth consecutive title in 2014.

N-Fab AmPro Yamaha’s Walker Fowler has been Borich’s biggest competition this season and with good reason as the Ohio native currently holds three overall victories through the first nine rounds. With the exception of the previous round where he went scoreless in the championship standings, Fowler has been a consistent threat out front with seven podium finishes behind him. While Fowler has nothing to lose in the championship fight, the 2013 runner-up has much to gain as he continues to chase GNCC’s all-time winningest rider, Chris Borich, for a National title.

RacingPowersports.com/CST Tires/PirateMX.com’s Adam McGill is the most recent winner in the XC1 Pro ATV class as he claimed arguably the toughest win of the season at round nine’s Snowshoe GNCC. McGill sits third in the championship standings, just five points behind Fowler’s second place spot. The West Virginia native has also been a consistent threat to the front-runners this season and there’s no doubt that he, too, has his sights set on chasing a first career championship at the final four rounds.

DWT Racing’s Jarrod McClure vaulted himself into the fourth place position in the championship standings after two solid podium finishes in as many races. The eastern Pennsylvania native heads to a familiar track in Unadilla and with the added momentum from the previous two rounds, McClure could have what it takes to contest for the overall win in New York. Precision/Maxxis Tires Chris Bithell sits back in fifth with a few unfortunate mechanical issues behind him. With three podium finishes already, Bithell hopes to turn things around with a solid and consistent second half of the season.

Following an incredible performance at Snowshoe, GT Thunder-backed Brian Wolf sits seventh in the championship standings, followed by Dave Bayless Motorsports/Dirtworks/DC Cycles-backed Brycen Neal in eighth and DeRisi Racing/Team Woodhead’s Braden Henthorn rounds out the top ten overall heading into the tenth round.

N-Fab AmPro Yamaha’s Cole Richardson is well on his way to earning his first career XC2 Pro Am Championship but it’s not without a fight from SICC Racing/Maxxis-backed Marshal Goings, who sits only five points behind in the championship standings. Richardson and Goings have gone 1-2 at almost every round thus far and both rookie riders have shown that they know how to win in a highly competitive Pro Am class. Richardson enjoys a four-race winning streak heading into this Saturday’s race and the Pennsylvania native tops the charts with six total wins in the class. Goings has three race-wins, along with a handful of consistent podium finishes so the XC2 championship chase is sure to come down to the very end.

In the 4x4 Pro division, West Virginia’s Bryan Buckhannon leads the way with a two-race winning streak behind him. ATV Parts Plus/Can-Am’s Buckhannon has been one of the most consistent riders in the division thus far, finishing no worse than fifth place through the first nine rounds. But Can-Am X-Team’s Kevin Trantham, who also has three wins, sits only seven points back in the second place position. BNR Motorsports/Loctite Can-Am’s Robert Smith sits in third in the championship standings with one win under his belt.
