Slightly Bent Race Report from Loretta Lynn's

Friday, May 16, 2014 | 12:25 PM

This round of the GNCC series brings us to one of the most iconic MX tracks in the country.  The Parts Unlimited Loretta Lynn’s is located on the ranch owned by the famous coal miner’s daughter and has become a series favorite for many of the racers.  Although the course may look gentle, there are a deceiving number of small rocks which means avoid roost at all costs.  With rainfall the day before and overcast skies for the start of the race, dust was kept to a minimum and surprisingly, so was the mud.

Starting off with our younger riders we have the Hinson Clutch backed Suzuki with 16-18C rider Daniel Gwinn in the seat.  Unfortunately, Daniel experienced some mechanical issues at the holeshot and never made into the woods.   No matter how much you prepare, sometimes the cards are just not stacked in your favor.  Sport 15+ rider Colton White has certainly spent some time this year chasing down the mechanical gremlins on his own quad.  I think taking home a 1st place in his class along with a 7th place overall is a good sign that those gremlins are starting to cooperate.

Moving up a generation (or two), we find the #821 of Jason Gautier on the line with the 24+C class.  Jason has also had his fair share of battles with the mechanic, but I think walking away with a 3rd place in one of the most competitive C classes will put a smile on his face.  Rounding out the morning classes we find legendary quad racer and Silver Masters 55+ rider Donnie Pruett perched high upon his custom Quadtech seat and ready to go after another championship title.  Putting his Honda in the 1st place position gives Donnie a cool 21-point lead and gives you a reason to pay attention to this class at round 7.  We now move to the afternoon race, the Vet B class, and the #703 of Dan Webb.  Now, I can tell you first hand that the competition in this class is no joke and the points battle will probably come down to the last lap at round 13.  That being said, Dan managed to put his HMF Racing backed Yamaha into the 6th position and is currently sitting 4th in the points standings.  Not a bad days work.

That does it for SBR from the famous Loretta Lynn’s Ranch.  I think by now most of the GNCC nation knows about the great work that our friends at Vigilant Vet Racing have been up to.  But did you know about the raffle they are holding to help raise PTSD awareness?  It involves a carbon fiber hood signed by some of the greatest ATV/MX riders to ever put on a helmet.  A small donation to a great organization puts you in running to own this one of a kind piece of racing memorabilia.  Visit the VVR website, stop by the VVR tent on vendors row, or come by and see us in the pits for more information.  See you in two weeks!!
