Marshal Goings took last season’s College A class championship by a single point over Cole Richardson. The two have been battling once again in 2014 but this time in the XC2 Pro Am class where Goings currently leads the class points. We caught up with Marshal to talk about his 2014 season and more.
GNCCRacing.com: How's everything going today?
Marshal Goings: Everything is going well today, just getting home from school!
Are you ready to go racing again this weekend?
I’m ready for this weekend for sure! Loretta’s is where my national career started back in my youth days so I always like going there.
How has Loretta's gone for you in the past?
Loretta’s has always treated me well. Hopefully it continues to this weekend and I can come out of the weekend with some success.
What do you hope to accomplish this weekend?
I’m hoping to place top three in XC2and would love to be in the top 10 overall.
How has the rest of your 2014 season been going.
2014 has been good to me for sure. Just trying to do what I love and have fun with it. Any success that comes with it is a bonus!
You're on a 3 race win streak at the moment, what's it going to take to keep that alive?
To keep the win streak going it’s going to be tough. There are some tough guys in the class but I’m hoping to stay up there in the hunt until the end.
How does it feel to be holding the XC2 points lead at the moment?
It’s definitely a great feeling knowing that I’m not the one trying to make up points. I’m the one just trying to get the most points possible.
What's it going to take to hold onto that lead and take the class championship?
It’s going to take a lot of training and a well maintained quad for sure! Main thing is no DNF’s. It’s tough to make up the points you lose.
There's definitely some pretty stiff competition in the XC2 class isn't there?
There’s tons of competition in the class but I couldn’t ask for a better group of guys to go racing with.
Obviously the championship has got to be your main goal for the season, but what else do you hope to accomplish?
I’d love to get a top 10 national number next year and move my way up through the pro pits.
If everything goes the way you want it to this season, do you have any plans in mind for 2015?
2015, I’ll be back for sure. Not sure what class yet, but I’m definitely planning on sticking around.
What about beyond 2015? What do you hope to accomplish down the road?
I’m not sure yet. Only time will tell!
Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you like to thank?
I’d like to give a big thanks to my dad. If it wasn’t for him there’s no way I’d be able to do this. Also, Todd at Demaree Motorsports, the SICC Racing crew, the Moore family, all my friends and family that support me, Maxxis, Houser, Percision, Hiper, Fasst, Cycra, Dave Bayless, ORP, Clarke, Twin Air, Fly, Sidi, Hygh Octane Graphix, Santo at Dersi Racing, he has done big things for me this year can’t thank all you guys enough. Also, the GNCC crew! You guys put on a great series.
