Round 5 of the 2014 AMSOIL GNCC Series showcased more action-packed racing with Motorcycle Superstore / Bell Hemet sponsored Charlie Mullins coming out on top for another overall win and the XC1 Pro class points lead.
Charlie Mullins
Mullins' victory put a halt to Kailub Russell's three-race win streak and put Mullins back in charge of the series. With five rounds complete, Mullins now holds a 3-point lead over last year's champion Russell.
"The track was full of roots with a lot of ruts. I felt really solid on the bike today and only made a few mistakes. Overall I'm happy with the way I rode and was able to take the win and get the points lead back."
Kacy Martinez
Martinez was back on track in Springville, Indiana; as she captured her fourth win of the series and holds solid control of the WXC series point chase. It wasn't easy, though, as Martinez had to recover from a slow start and work her way through the pack.
"I got a bad start and ended up around tenth in the first corner! I was trying to make passes quick so the front girls couldn't get away too early. The first two laps I was not riding like myself, I was all over the place but managed to get into the lead after going down in the first lap," explained Factory KTM pilot Martinez. "The last two laps went a lot better and I started riding much better but still never felt really comfortable on the course! Hey, I'm happy to come away with the win and keep the consistency rolling."
Jesse Groemm
Maxxis/KLIM/DirtWise/KTM race team's Jesse Groemm was on his game, sharing the lead throughout the day and eventually ending up on the podium with a third place finish in the XC2 Pro class.
Honorable mention goes out to Husqvarna's Craig DeLong who took another 250A Class win and FMF/RPM/KTM's Rachel Gutish who finished 4th in the WXC Class.
Round 6 of the GNCC Series takes place May 10 & 11 at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN.
