Polaris / Coastal / CST / National Guard / Yoshimura / Yokley Racing Team Report - Ironman GNCC

The Ironman is a special event in many ways; it’s the last race of the season, champions are crowned, and it usually has the highest attendance of racers and spectators of any event in the GNCC series. The weather was typical for fall in Indiana, cool and sunny, making for perfect race conditions. The course featured everything from whooped out woods trails, wide open field sections and even an underground tunnel.
The race started well for the Polaris Coastal National Guard team with Yokley and Kiger running in the top 5. As the race settled in, Yokley was comfortably in 3rd, seconds behind the leader. Scott Kiger was having a good race when he broke a rear axle on lap 3. He had to back his pace down to make sure he didn’t damage it any further and finish the one hour race.
William Yokley was cruising along headed to another podium finish when he also broke a rear axle on lap 4. This made it difficult to keep it on the track on the hill climb sections with only one rear wheel pulling. He needed a good finish to clinch another Championship, so he had to back his pace down too. Both Scott and William made it to the finish by driving smart on the 5-mile course.
Scott Kiger finished the season out in 4th place in GNCC season points. William Yokley was once again crowned the National Champion in the top XC1 Modified class. This season produced some great racing by a lot of top teams. The team would like to thank all of our great sponsors who made it possible to compete in this Grand National Cross Country racing series. All of our major sponsors have committed to supporting the team in 2014, including Polaris Industries, Coastal Drilling and the National Guard. We look forward to another year of competitive racing and hopefully defending the title in 2014. See you next year!
