Zakowski Motorsports Report - Iowa Short Course Series
Wednesday, October 2, 2013 | 12:30 PM
Another series has come to an end for the 2013 season. After a successful Terracross Championship, Zakowski Motorsports headed to Chariton, Iowa for the final round of the Iowa Short Course Series, a three round series that is designed to be a cross between TT and MX. Team driver Zac Zakowski was again pulling double duty, fighting for the championship in the Utv-Open and Utility Quad classes.
An interesting night of racing was ahead, with Zac holding the points lead for both classes, taking wins at round one and two on his Atv, and a fourth and first place in Utv-Open, but he still had plenty of work ahead of him in the stacked field of racers. The races are set-up in a two heat, one final format, where the heat races qualify you for your starting position in the final. Starting in the back of the pack for the first heat of the Utv-Open class, Zakowski sat back and waited for his opening, eventually getting in the lead and taking the win when the leaders made contact with each other. Zac continued his momentum into the second final where he would make multiple passes again to get into the lead early in the race, thus taking the win.
Zac’s hard work in the heats qualified him on the pole position for the final, right where he wanted to be in order to avoid traffic. When the green flag flew, smoke could be seen coming of the Kenda tires on the number 990 Zakowski Motorsports Can-am Commander, as Zac laid the hammer down and never looked back until he saw the checkered flag flying. Crossing the finish line, Zac took the Utv-Open win, and that would secure the 2013 Iowa Short Course championship!
The good news doesn’t stop there. Zac went on to sweep the Utility class on is all new 2014 Can-am Outlander 800, wining both heat races and the final. The wins lengthened the gap on second place in the standing and Zakowski Motorsports would take home another championship for 2013.
“It feels great to get not one, but both championships this year in the short course. Our entire team has been working really hard this summer and it is finally paying off. I think we might have some luck on our side for once. Can’t thank our sponsors and fans enough, there is definitely more to come!” Zakowski stated after the race.
The weekend was huge for everyone at Zakowsk Motorsports and our sponsors. Good things happen when you put the work in, on and off the track. We all plan on bringing this dominant force to the last two round of GNCC. See you there!
