Cody Collier has been on fire in 2013 with multiple class wins in the Schoolboy (13-15) class and currently leads the class points with 3 races to go. We caught up with Cody to talk about his 2013 season and more.
GNCCRacing.com: How's everything going today?
Cody Collier: Great! Just got home from school. Hanging out with my cousin Zack and enjoying the 4 day week thanks to you guys.
Sounds like a blast! So tell everyone about yourself.
I'm 14, from Carroll, Ohio. I've been racing since I was 6 and have been at it ever since then. This year alone I've raced FastTraxx, OXCR, WEXCR, IXCR, GNCC, MAXC, MOVHS, CRA, NECXC, and WORCS. Quite the list. I’m also part of my high school soccer team, and straight A honor student at BCHS.
Wow you’ve got a lot going on! But, are you ready to go racing again this weekend?
I'm always ready to go racing! I'm going to go out there and just have some fun. Earlier this season I was getting super nervous before my races, so I've been having more fun lately and I've been riding better because of that.
What's your goal for this weekend?
To go really fast and hopefully bring home the W
You've got a pretty good points battle with Westley Wolfe going, how do you feel coming into PA?
Confident. My mechanic, Matt Pierce, has got my quad running perfect and I'm riding better than ever, so let's see if I can put it all together this weekend.
So tell us about your 2013 season.
It's been a great year, with only one finish outside of the top 5 overall. I've surprised myself and I think about everyone else too. I was hoping for a top 10 overall position at the end of the year, and here I am with three rounds to go with the 201 plate! Definitely a great year.
Did you expect to be leading the class points?
Coming into the season, I thought I had it in the bag. Westley has proven me wrong though. It's been a fight since the start and it will more than likely come down to Ironman for the class championship and the overall.
What would it take to come away with the championship?
Two wins out of the next three races, which won't be easy, but I'm up for the challenge.
Do you think you can make that happen?
Well absolutely! Just got to have a clean next few rounds and ride my heart out.
Do you have any plans for 2014 yet?
Nothing's going to change. I turn 15 right after Powerline Park, so I won't be able to run a 450 in GNCC until the 2015 season, so I'm sort of stuck where I'm at.
What do you hope to accomplish next season?
I definitely want to come away with a class championship and the 201 plate.
What about beyond 2014, what are your goals for the future?
I want to bump up to College A in 2015, and depending how I do there, move up to XC2 in 2016. Things may change by the time I get there, so I'll plan accordingly. Hopefully I can make my way up to XC1 by 2018, so watch out Fowler! (laughs)
What will it take to accomplish that?
Lots of drive and determination for sure. You've got to be too dumb to quit.
Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you like to thank?
Big thanks to my mom and dad for letting me be part of this crazy sport, Matt Pierce for getting my quads prepped and to the track, Laz at GThunder, my Papa for all his support, One Industries, 661, Smith Optics and Outdoor Adventures. Also big thanks to Jared Bolton and everyone at GNCC for selecting me for this week's Tuesday Toolbox!
