DirtWise Riding Schools Report - Mountaineer Run

Monday, June 17, 2013 | 10:00 AM

DirtWise Riding Schools and DVDs supported riders, Jason Thomas and Layne Michael, delivered a dominating pair of results at Rd. 8 of the GNCC series held in perfect conditions near Masontown, PA over the weekend.

In what was looking to be a dry and dusty race soon turned into a race course that had prime conditions for those riders with the skills to rip through some slop and to pull some mad slides with control and precision through the trees in the slick trail conditions.

DirtWise/ KTM-Parts.com/ Maxxis racer and school Instructor, Jason Thomas reveled in the conditions and shot to the front of the pack at the end of the second lap following an excursion into a ravine early in race after being punted off the trail by another competitor's out of control bike. After spending a significant amount of time extracting himself from this predicament, Thomas then railed to the front and set sail for an easy victory.

The English native said following the race, "That was so much fun today! It's time that I took control of this Championship so from now on there's no more messing around - its full commitment from here. So far this year I had given away three guaranteed wins due to some mistakes that should not have been made. Once I got in the lead I just settled into a smooth consistent pace until the last lap when I thought it was time to put in a heater of a lap to just reaffirm to everyone who they need to beat. That fast lap actually moved me all the way up into 4th overall in the race results.

Third place in the Pro XC2 class was secured by fellow DirtWise Schools and DVDs supported racer, and former student, Layne Michael. The West Virginia born rider shined in his home state following a year of mediocre results so far, due to injury and mechanical issues, but now Michael is beginning to be positioned on the race track where the talent he exhibited in the Youth ranks should have him at.

Michael was ecstatic after the race, saying, "I am so excited to finally hit the podium in 2013. It's been a long time coming, through a heap of adversity, but I just kept on pushing each week because I knew the bad luck and poor results couldn't last. I'm so appreciative of the support of my parents, and I'm really looking forward to building on this result and confidence gain so as I am constantly at the front battling those lead guys. I want to win one of these things by the end of the year!"

DirtWise Schools and DVDs owner, and legendary Offroad racer, Shane Watts was excited with the presence of both riders on the podium. "Jason rode and managed the race like the champion that he is. We are fully confident in his ability to successfully defend this Championship in 2013, even if it seems he prefers to do it the hard way, ha! With Layne, we had a lot of hope for him coming into this race season that he would consistently be a podium contender at each race. Unfortunately it took a little longer for him to get to where he should be with his results, but he has the skills and potential to quickly progress from here to the point of challenging for race victories, not just podiums!"

Round 9 of the GNCC series will be held on June 30 at the Snowshoe Ski Resort, WV, and the rocky and technical trails will be favorable for both DirtWise supported racers to find the top two steps of the podium.
