Round 5 of the GNCC series was held in Park City, Kentucky, this Sunday May fifth. After several days of rain prior to the event, the race turned into a mud fest. The organizers decide to cancel the morning races and put all racer together in the afternoon race. Over 400 riders took of just after 1 PM for a survival run.
Team Shenandoah Honda/USWE-sports.com rider Thad Duvall decided on Monday that he would ride a Honda 250 F. Duvall: ”I rode the bike last week a bit and really liked it. I thought it would be a good idea to race it in this particular event. Talked it over with John Ross (Shenandoah Honda) who agreed. I really got excited when it all seemed to come together seeing the rain fall, making it even better being on a 250 F."
Full of confidence Duvall pulled the All Balls Racing XC1 holeshot which set the tone for the rest of the day. Have a clear track ahead of him, Duvall stayed in the lead for most of the first lap. Making a mistake on one of the up hills on lap 2, he dropped into 3rd place. Telling himself not to worry, he quickly passed Russell and completed lap 3 in second. With only Joshua Strang on front of him, Duvall continued plugging away in the mud making the pass for first on lap 4. With his only fall less then a mile from the finish, he won his second career XC1 class GNCC and became the first rider in GNCC history to win a GNCC Overall on a 250 4 stroke!
Duvall: “The key today was to ride smart, ride consistent and to stay out of trouble. We decided to put on a front Dunlop MX 31 and a rear MX 51 which worked out really well. The motor ran fantastic all day long and I would like to thank Tim Giles for porting the engine and Mototassinari for their awesome airboots. I’m very happy and exited right now and it will be hard to a decided which Honda to choose for the next race, they are both winners”.
Results: 1. Thad Duvall (Honda) 2. Joshua Strang (Kawasaki) 4. Chris Bach (KTM)
