How's everything going today?
Wonderful! Hectic, but I'm good.
So how did you get started in the off-road world?
Well it all started when I wasà around 5 years old when my dad turned me loose on a Polaris Sportsman 90. Little to sayà I fell in love right then and there.à I was never allowed to raceà becauseà I was always toldà I was too young.à Then inà 2008à I figured out that my dad had been feeding me a line the whole time. So my firstà race was in the end of 2008 at one of our close local tracks.
What attracted you to off-road racing?
Ià just always loved to be outside, riding having a good time with my friends and what not. We always used to make bicycle tracks in the woods and pretend we were actually cross country racers. (laughs) So, just the speed and the outdoors sucked me inà and hereà I am.
What has been the biggest accomplishment of your career?
Probably the first XC2 win just a couple weeks ago. That made me feel like I was on top of the world.
How did it feel to take the College A title last year?
Awesome. Biggest thrill of my life to think that some small town nobody like me could go out and make a name for myself doing somethingà I love and somethingà I just thought was a backyard hobby.à I never thought in my wildest dreams thatà I could do what I'm doing today.
What was it like to make the jump to the XC2 Pro-Am class?
It was, well, almost too much to take in at one time. But little did I know ifà I just rode my own race and had fun thatà I could end up in the top five like that!
How has the 2012 season been going so far?
It's been great actually. Santo took the biggest stepà anyone has ever taken for me and the whole team for sure and man is he doing a really good job! Ifà I have the slightest complaint he will work night and day to make it just right for me. If that doesn’t make you feel confident having a great team behind you,à I don't knowà what would!
What was it like to get that first win in the XC2 class?
It was too much. It was likeà I was living in a dream andà the one thing that woke me up from my dream and showed me that it was real life was that rookie blast of champagne to the face! (laughs) It made me so hungry for another win and I'm not going to stop now!
What is it going to take to continue with that success in 2012?
It's going to be a lot of tough work, that’s for sure. It's going to take eating right, working out every week and just keeping myself healthy and on the seat. There's a lot of wrenches to be turned also and most important it's got to be fun!
What are your goals for 2012?
Win, win, win.à I want toà make my man Santo look good and show everybody just what Team Derisi is made of!
Where do you hope to take your career in the future?
You know that guy Chris Borich? Yeah, right where he is. (laughs). Hopefully,à anyway. I've never wanted anything more than to be number one butà at the same timeà I know it'sà not going to be anywhere close to easy!Ã
What is it like being a part of the DeRisi Racing team?
Because of the team I've never felt more confident about my bike and the guys that will accept my races, bad and goodà of course. Likeà I said, theà guy doesn’t sleep.à He'll go to the end of the earth for me and the rest of the Derisi Racing team!
What is your favorite thing about racing as a whole?
Having fun for sure. Just being myself on the track screaming and yelling at my buddies out there on the track, doing some big wheelies, one handers, no footers, andà getting theà big 19 machine on the podium!
Who would you like to thank?
First offà I have to thank Santo and his wife for the nonstop hours they put into this. David and James Reeves for turning more wrenches than Lucky's Donk Shop! My momma and my poppa for all the funds and support.à My two best buddies Jason Enoch and Bob Dunlap. And finally all of theà Derisi Team sponsors; Leatt,à Rath Racing, Fox Shox, GBC Tires, IMS Products, HMF, HiPer Technology, Power Bar, GPR, Fasst Co, DC Cycle, Wiseco, RG Honda, Twin Air, Rekluse, Dirtworks, Tireballs, DP Brakes, G4 Graphics, PowerMadd, Motion Pro, Quad Tech, Antigravity Batteries, RPM,à Outerwears, Bell Helmets, Spider Grips, Silkolene, Moose Racing, Scott Goggles and Liquid Performance.
