GNCC Round #3 - FMF Steele Creek

FMF Steele Creek - Morganton, NC

After a solid performance at round two I headed home and continued training in preparation for Steele Creek. We arrived at the track early Friday; I spent some time catching up with friends, made a couple last minute checks on my machine and saw some of the course that evening. I felt ready for this round of racing and was eager to get things underway.

My Yamaha got me a great jump off the line! I rounded the first corner near the front of the pack. I quickly maneuvered myself into fourth place as the pack hit the woods. Passing in the first lap proved to be difficult in the mountainous terrain. I found a few new lines and took advantage of the large field section at the end of lap one. At the close of lap two I had moved my way into second place behind McGill. We had a good pace going when I hit the mud hole after the bridge and got stuck. It took me some time to get out which cost me at least five or six positions.

Again, I had to charge forward. I made up the ground that was lost in the mud hole by the white flag lap I had moved into fourth place behind Bill. As we entered the last field heading towards the checkered Borich and I had an intense battle. As we rounded the last turn I edged him out. Ending up fourth on the day I was happy to salvage a fourth place and move into the points lead.

I have a great group of sponsors who stand behind me and have had a hand in this event. Yamaha, Houser, Ohlins, HMF, Maxxis, Mike Kiser Welding, Raber Industries, T&K Cycles, HiPer, Fly, Powermadd, Fasst, Ballance Racing, Precision Racing, Rath Racing, GT Thunder, DP Brakes, G4 graphics, Baldwin Motorsports, Big Nutz, Chester Vet Clinic, Spectro Oils, Moto X Nutrition Tire Balls, ATV Exposed, and IMS.

After three rounds of racing I am happy to have the points lead, however, I will not take any time to unwind in between rounds as I intend to put my Yamaha back on the top of the podium. I am anxiously awaiting round four as we head to Union South Carolina for "The Big Buck"; See you in two weeks!
