Race Report GNCC Mountaineer Run In Masontown West Virginia
Polaris ACE Single Seat class

I arrived in Masontown West Virginia on Friday evening to hear the Truett team talking about rocks they encountered while they walked the race course during the day. Normally I hear of trees and muddy areas, so this is all new talk to me about the track conditions.

The Truett team started making a plan of attack and they seem to have even done a third walk during the day, and now have this plan ready to go.

Fast forward to early Saturday morning...

I decide to wander to a few areas of this newly named "rock the soup out of you" track & sure enough I see boulder fields the size of UTVs & I think to myself I wouldnt try to navigate a bicycle through this let alone a race speed UTV.

9 a.m. approaches and it's time to line up for the Polaris ACE series race (Single Seat UTV race), 10 cars are starting this event and I'm feeling every single one will be leaving in 5 gallon buckets due to rocks, major hills, and serious off-camber slopes and switch back turns.

Then the sound of teeennn seeeecccconndss (10 seconds) the race announcer yells! Then the green flag drops...

Collin Truett had the worst start I have ever seen, but by turn three he was 5th or 6th back. So, I venture back up to the woods section to get some pictures and video and witness the bashing of these single seaters against the boulder field.

I then go to the finish line to watch timing of laps and wow Collin has piloted the OTR Wheel Racing / Truett Racing Polaris Ace from that horrible start to 3rd on 1st check in time and 2nd place on laps 2-3-4-5 then he comes in at 1st place on 6 & 7 lap to finish the bombardment race at a cool 2nd place in the ACE class

I was very impressed with his finish after the bad start and knowing he was battling the boulders and other cars
