RideMPS.com/AMSOIL/Honda Race Report: Ironman GNCC

Crawfordsville, IN was the final round of the GNCC Series. This has always been my favorite track to race, and I was excited to get the day started. When the 10 second flag flew, my rideMPS.com/ Amsoil/ Honda fired and the race was under way. I started of 8th in the first turn, so I knew it was going to be a good day. The motocross track was in the first couple miles, so I knew I would be able to make up some ground and that’s just what I did! After the first few turns on the MX track I was into the lead and already starting to open a little gap. I heard a two stroke approaching quick and before I could realize who it was he passed me over a jump. Soon to find out it was Justin Sipes I followed his lines the first part of the grass track. As we entered the woods he made a mistake and I was able to get the lead again. I pushed pretty hard to get away from him.
Within a few miles Nick Davis closed that hard earned gapped and latched on to my rear fender. He kept me honest and charging, at this pace we actually made a few passes on some XC1 riders. We caught Grant Baylor and rode his wheel for a couple laps and eventually we pulled away from Davis. Continuing that pace on the third lap I made 3 costly mistakes to allow Davis to catch me again. I then had to pit and he was able to get around me there. When the two lap board came out I was a few seconds off Davis, but I had no clue Craig Delong was only 15 seconds off me. Craig and I had a pretty good battle that would take us into the final lap. I made a couple bad line choices and he was able to get around me. I stayed all over his rear tire and he came into a deep rut and there was a lapper in the front, Craig then me. The lapper lost momentum causing Craig to check up. I was able to capitalize on their mistakes and get around both of them. I then charged pretty hard to get a gap and I did just that.
I was able to get a big enough lead to get out of his sight and bring home a 2nd in class and 12th overall. Even though I was unable to secure the win, it was a great day! This year has been an amazing experience in my career. I hope it is just the start of what is to come in the future for me. I want to thank all of my sponsors who backed me this year. It was a pleasure working with each of you and I wouldn’t have been able to do it all without you! I hope I will have the privilege to work with you all again in 2015! Thanks again!
