UNION, S.C. (March 6, 2017) –  After a four-month hiatus, the 2017 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Maxxis, an AMA National Championship, picked back up this past weekend, March 4, in Union, South Carolina. For the first time ever, the Big Buck GNCC served as the season opener for the 13-round series, only adding to the nerves and excitement that is associated with the first round.

Even with two National Championships on his resume, Fowler lined up on the front row a little uneasy. After facing a concussion and shoulder injury late last year, he only had two months of training in the offseason. Fowler was fully aware of what it takes to be on top, and worked day-in and day-out in those two months to get back to his top condition.

After being involved in a first turn crash at last year’s Big Buck GNCC, Fowler knew he had to make quick work off the start and get out front early. Once the green flag waved, Fowler’s Yamaha shot off the line to the first turn where he grabbed the Holeshot and lead the way into the woods.

With a clear track in front of him, Fowler sprinted to get as much as a lead over the rest of the stacked field of pro riders as he could. When he checked into timing and scoring for the first time, he had a 38-second lead on his closest competition.

As the two-hour race rolled on, Fowler faced trivial issues where he made a few small mistakes. However, these were minor enough not to bother him too much and he was able to maintain the time gap until the checkered flag was out. Along with his overall win, Fowler has also secured the early points lead.

“We know what we need to work on and better execute for the upcoming rounds,” said Fowler. “We can only get stronger, which is exciting because we are already in a good spot.”

The GNCC series continues this Saturday, March 11, in Palatka, Florida. After taking yesterday off to let his body recover, Fowler is picking back up on his workout routines and riding, before he heads to the Wild Boar GNCC on Friday. As the six-round UTV Championship kicks off this weekend, it will also serve as Fowler’s UTV XC1 Pro debut.
