Wicked Bilt/Can-Am’s David Plavi brought home the XC2 Pro Sports class win at the Ironman GNCC season finale, celebrating his second victory of the season and clinching second in the 2015 points championship. Teammate Steve Matko finished tenth in the XC1 Pro event.

Plavi had to win this race for any chance at the XC2 Pro Sport Championship, and he got to a great start in the second spot, and quickly took over the lead in the lap one. Plavi built on his lead each lap, and finished over a minute ahead of the competition by the checkered flag.  Plavi’s win was his second of the season, which was the most in the highly competitive class.  Despite his best efforts, he came up short for the championship by just three points and finished in the runners up spot in the championship points race.

“The Wicked Bilt/ Can-Am was great today,” said Plavi. “We made some changes today, we’ve made changes every race and it’s gotten better every time, which makes my job really easy. I’ve had some bad luck in the last couple of races. I knew we had the speed and the machine, but you have to have a little bit of luck to make it happen. It all came together today.”

In the XC1 Pro race, Matko started on the second row and took the holeshot on his row. With the forecast calling for heavy rain, he elected to run a mud tire, which held him back from competing with the frontrunners. Matko joined the Wicked Bilt team at the last GNCC race, finishing third at Powerline Park, and he finished out the season sixth in the points chase.

“We had a great start,” said Matko. “I got tangled up, in reverse, to get around an Arctic Cat, early in the race, the front row really checked out on us. I love the Can-Am; it’s a woods machine and it’s super fast. We just chose the wrong tire. Unfortunately it didn’t rain, so we had a little too much grip and couldn’t really slide it through the corners. This just wasn’t our day.”

The Offroadmotorsports' / Wicked Bilt/ Can-Am team racers scored three wins including six podium finishes for an impressive first year of GNCC racing for the team, and they look to build on what they learned from 2015 to make a run for the championships next year.
