Obermeyer Suzuki Race Report: GNCC Round 1 Palatka, Florida

Monday, March 9, 2015 | 5:00 PM

While the nation was battling winter storm Thor, the nations top off-road racers where headed to the Sunshine state for round 1 of the GNCC Series.

The Obermeyer Suzuki Team of Jake Froman and Cole Kirchoff had been training and preparing for this event all winter long and were ready to see how they stacked up. Jake who would line up in the 4-stroke A lights Class aboard his 2015 Suzuki RM-Z250 was confident his off season conditioning would serve him well. With a great Start Jake would spend the day in the lead from green flag to checkered flag with a cushion of nearly 3 minutes over second place. With the Florida round being a sand race that is known for being really rough, Jake would manage to claim a victory on course that causes a lot of talented riders to succumb to the beatings of the sand whoops.

Also piloting a 2015 Suzuki RM-Z250 in this years GNCC series is Cole Kirchoff, who is contesting the 250 A class. While Coles Start was not textbook, his challenge would be attempting to better his finish by weaving his way past as many of the 50 other racers in his class before the checkered flag would fly. After nearly 30 minutes of racing Cole would emerge from the woods in 7th place on the opening lap. As the race wore on Coles training program was obviously strong enough in the off season to allow him to mount a charge that would see him move to 4th by lap 2, up to 3rd on lap 4. Then stopping for fuel and a fresh pair of Dragon Goggles, he would drop the hammer and move in 2nd place with a lap to go, and a deficit of over 3 minutes to the leader. He was in attack mode with nearly 3 hours of racing completed; his conditioning was on full display. On the final lap Cole would shrink the deficit by a whole 2 minutes posting an impressive lap time and landing him with a solid 2nd place performance on the day.
