Just when you thought you understood where the 2008 Grand National Cross Country Series was going, another surprise comes down the trail. Such was the case today when Rockstar/Yoshimura Suzuki's Chris Borich returned to victory lane for the first time in four months. After winning the season opener in Florida, Borich has struggled to get back in victory lane, but he mounted a classic come-from-behind charge to make it happen again at the GEICO Mountain Ridge GNCC.

Borich topped GT Thunder Yamaha's Brandon Sommers and XCBob.com's Matt Smiley, with another GT Thunder Yamaha rider, Johnny Gallagher, edging KTM's Taylor Kiser for fourth.

Series leader Bill Ballance had a tough day. He led early before running into some steering problems, and a few extra pit stops relegated him outside of the top ten. But Ballance charged back for seventh, and actually further extended his points lead. Team Excell Motorsports Bryan Cook was in the hunt for the win on the last lap until running into trouble and dropping to ninth, and KTM's Adam McGill ran into a few mechanical gremlins and ended up 17th overall.

GT Thunder Yamaha's Don Ockerman won the XC2 Class over Mark Notman and Brian Wolf.

The morning race came down to another battle between Angel Atwell and Traci Cecco, with Atwell coming out on top again. Cecco was second with Kristin Atwell, Angel's niece, on the podium again in third.

Female riders didn't leave their winning to the morning race. In the Youth race, Cheyanne Chadron scored a huge win to top the overall podium, ahead of Matt Harris and Michael Spalding.

The race went well, with a small but of rain in the morning keeping the dust down, and leading to perfect conditions by the afternoon race.
